SHEILA'S POV
Together we raced across the grass in the front yard. The sprinklers kicked on, spraying us with cold water. Neither of us was bothered as we hit the street at a dead run. I swear I felt my heart swelling with pure joy.
We kept running and laughing next to each other. Dashing through the street lights dabbing the asphalt like spot lights. Luke was used to this feeling. This feeling was his entire life.
I could tell he was running slow for me. His long limber legs were built to run circles around people like me. Or they were built to trip themselves. Not quite sure..
We ran past the houses, they were nothing but blurs in my peripheral vision. The street paint was my yellow brick road, and it was leading me farther and farther into a happy madness. When we ran as far as our legs and lungs would carry us, we collapsed into a field of grass.
My breath was rasping in and out of chest and crazy giggled were panting out of my mouth. I could hear him inhaling and exhaling deeply. I could feel his heat warmed my arm next to me. I stared at the sky, unable to speak. Unable to breathe.
The stars were so beautiful. Dancing. Twirling. Blinking at us. I'd never seen a sky so clear.
"I've never seen the sky like this." Luke whispered, still breathing hard. I turned to look at him. His hear was matted with sweat, beads of it running down his forehead. His stubbled chin was perfectly sculpted. His cobalt eyes as blue as the ocean. And his breath... his sweet breath...
He turned to look at me and I felt his pink finger brush my hand. "You look... astonishing." He mumbled, finally catching his breath.
I just laughed and shook my head.
"What?" He knitted his eyes brows together.
"Nothing." I grinned. "The kiss last night was..." I shook my head, grinning even wider.
"Kiss?" Luke asked, confusion apparent in his voice. He propped himself up on his elbow and looked down at my face.
"Yeah.. you kissed me." I frowned.
"Sheila... I don't remember that." He admitted. I could hear the disappointment in his voice. I just frowned and looked back up at the sky. Luke didn't even remember the electricity between us. "Sheila." He whispered in my eyes, scooting closer to my body. "Remind me."
I turned my head to him, butterflies fluttering in my stomach. My mind blanked as I stared at his eyes then his lips. I sat up barely, he leaned in slightly. Then once again, I found peace in the feeling of his lips crashing into mine.
His strong hand cradled my head as he turned his head, mouth passionately pressed against mine. I wrapped an arm around his waist, wanting to be close to him. Wanting to hold him. Wanting him to hold me...
Luke pulled away, lost for breath again. His eyes were drunk with passion, his lips slightly parted in awe. "I've never felt this happy before." He whispered.
"Really?" I looked at him. He bit his lip and laid down again, wrapping his arm around my shoulders and pulling me to his chest. I could feel his heartbeat thrumming against my ear.
"Never." he whispered softly.
"Come on." I said, suddenly hopping to my feet. He stood up lazily, casting me a wary glance. I grabbed his hand and drug him a few blocks down the road.
"Where are we going?" He asked.
"We're already there." I answered. He blinked a few times, clearing the darkness from his eyes.
"Is this a graveyard.?" he gulped.
"Mhm." I nodded, walking into it bravely. "I'm not trying to kill the mood, i promise just come on."
He followed me quietly past dozens of head stones. "Sheila I-"
"Shhh." I interrupted him. Luke shut up instantly. Then I stopped in front of a perfectly carved gravestone. There were fresh flowers laid down. Dad... I thought quietly as i stared at the crimson roses laid carefully.
"Mom." I said softly, kneeling by the stone.
"Your mom is buried here?" he said in surprise. "Aren't you guys from America?"
"We had her body moved." I answered numbly.
He crouched near me, throwing an arm around my shoulder and pulling me close. We were silent for a moment.
"Mom." I said against, placing a hang on the stone reading, 'Emma Duddy.'
"This is Luke, mom. I wish you were here to meet him. This is the best i can do." I began slowly, feeling him tense next to me. "He's a great guy, you'd love him. He smiles a lot. Kind of like you. He sings too... really good. He's in a bad actually and he treats me well. And his laugh... he laughs at everything. And it's the most beautiful sound you'd ever hear." I smiled. For once I didn't feel sad when i thought about her being dead. She felt alive now. Alive here with Luke and I.
"Sheila." He mumbled in surprise, turning to glance at me. I paid him no mind.
"Okay let's go." I said, standing and dusting off my jeans. I marched off, feeling shock and warmth radiating off of him. "It's okay Luke. really. I'm okay." I smiled at him and he nodded.
"My turn for a surprise." He grinned, dragging me back towards the house. Before we hit his street, he pulled me into a dark area that smelled like chlorine. We stopped in front of a gate and he started climbing it.
"Are you trespassing?" I asked in a hushed voice.
"Are you coming?" He answered a question with a question, devilish smirk planted on his face.
"Duh." I rolled my eyes and scaled the fence. We dropped down into a pool area and I looked around confused. "What now?" I asked. The words barely came out of my mouth as a heavy shove from behind me sent me flailing into the pool. Clothes and all.
"LUCAS HEMMINGS!" I screeched as i surfaced, the cold water biting me. He came to the edge of the pool where I was attempting to climb out. He offered me a hand. With a crazy smile, i tugged him into the pool. He yelped as he went flying into the water.
We splashed around for a few minutes, then swam to the shallow end. He held me, our drenched clothes pressed up against eachother. "You complete me." I whispered into his neck.
"Huh?" He mumbled back.
"Your shirt. It's says you complete me." I giggled, feeling my face flush.
"Oh yeah." he laughed. "You really do complete me." He said softly. We stood there for a little while longer under the stars in the pool area at midnight. Just holding each other and wanting nothing more than this moment to last forever. The night felt endless.
"Let's get back home." Luke whispered.
