SHEILA'S POV:

I reached over and turned the lamp off after writing in my diary and tucking it safely under my pillow. My room was so dark at night. I blinked at the nothingness, feeling a sleepless night coming on.

I closed my eyes and I saw his blond hair illuminated by the sun. His perfect glowing skin lit up by his smile. His cobalt blue eyes full of warmth and love for Sasha.

My chest tightened. He's going to be my brother... I reminded myself silently. I couldn't ruin things for my dad. He'd finally found a woman who made him happy.

He was so in love with Liz. His mood had brightened, his laugh was louder, his life was simply better. I couldn't take that away from him. Luke simply wasn't worth it. Did I honestly believe that though...

A soft knock startled me out of my thoughts. I quickly but quietly scrambled to my door and opened it to poke my head out.

"Hi." Luke whispered awkwardly. "Can I come in?"

"No." I said, trying to close the door on his face. I stood and waited until I heard him go back to bed but he loitered in the hallway.

My heart was already beating in my throat and my hands were getting clammy. I bit my lip and pried the door open again. "Okay but just for a minute."

I could see him smiling in the darkness as he stepped into my room. I turned my back to him as I closed the door. "You should really stop visiting me so lat-"

Suddenly Luke turned me around and pinned me against the door. My breath hitched. "Luke.." I whispered, unable to say anything else.

His mouth was unnervingly close to mine, his sweet breath filling my nose and dizzying my senses.

"Shh." He put his finger on my lips. I bit his finger softly... sensually. Our eyes locked in the darkness and I could only see their blue radiance from a single strand of light.

His body was pressed against mine, I could feel all of him. His muscles, his breathing, his pounding heart. I swallowed, finding some courage.

"Our parents." I breathed. Luke stepped away from me, freeing me from his grasp.

"I know." He muttered, pacing until he decided to sit on the edge of my bed.

"You know we can't like... be together. Like, ever... right?" I mumbled softly, sitting next to him.

"Is that something you'd want? I mean if the situation was different?" he asked quietly. I bit my lip, unsure of how to answer. My feelings for him couldn't be based off of the last two days we'd spent together.

Which means I'm probably just...a little star struck. . "I don't know." I answered honestly. "Luke, we're strangers."

I could hear him fumbling with his hands. "It just doesn't feel like that. I feel like I've known you forever." He muttered sadly.

I felt sad but couldn't help but roll my eyes. How many girls has he said that too? Probably a lot, and they all probably fell for it.

"I guess." I mumbled and I knew he shot me a hurt look, and I was silently grateful I couldn't see it. "Look Luke..." I began slowly. "My mom died less than a year ago and I've never seen him so happy. Your mom makes him... feel alive." I swallowed a lump in my throat. Tears were threatening to spill out.

Luke didn't say anything at all. He was deadly silent and for a moment I wondered if he was even still sitting next to me.

Then I felt his warm strong arm wrap around me and tug me close to him. Then the armor I'd build up suddenly cracked and I broke down crying into his chest.

"I had no idea..." Luke whispered into my ear, brushing my hair out of my face. I just buried my head in his chest, my hands shaking violently. I had never cried in front of anyone, except for my mom, let alone a boy.

He used his sleeve to wipe away some stray tears and he never let go of me. No matter what though, I couldn't let my dad loose Liz. Even if that meant I lost Luke. Suddenly Luke jumped up and headed for the door.

"What's wrong?" I croaked.

"I wish I could stay but someone's coming up the stairs." He whispered harshly, opening my door and whisking into his room.

LUKE'S POV:

I snuck into my bed and did my best to pretend I'd been sleeping the whole time. I heard heavy footsteps go into Sheila's room and then into mine. Judging by how heavy the person sounded, it had to be Gus.

My stomach churned. Sheila was so close but so far away. I close my eyes for real once he retreated back downstairs and drifted off into a nightmare filled sleep.
