LUKE'S POV:

I was speechless as I crawled out of the car. I knew my mom saw my instant disdain but she didn't say anything. I grabbed my bag and drug it up to the front porch, avoiding eye contact with the strange man.

"Don't be rude, Luke." Mum muttered irritably. With a dramatic sigh, I turned towards the guy. His eyes were bright blue and he had tattoos covering an arm. You know how to pick em' mum. I thought wistfully.

"I'm Gus." The man smiled brightly.

"I'm Luke. Mum, can I speak to you?" I asked. "Privately." I added, casting Gus a way glance. She didn't budge. I grabbed her arm and tugged her inside.

"Luke, let go of me!" She squealed. I let go instantly.

"What the hell, mum? That guy is obviously here for your money!" I growled quietly.

"LUCAS ROBERT HEMMINGS!" She yelled, hurt apparent in her eyes.

"What's going on?" A soft, sleepy voice asked. We both turned to see a girl standing on the stairs rubbing her eyes. My eyes widened. She's beautiful..

"It's nothing Sheila." My mom smiled sweetly.

"Oh hi Luke." She smiled warily. Sheila... her name bounced around in my head.

"Are you family?" I asked, not recognizing her at all.

"She's Gus' daughter." Mum clarified. "You can see her as your stepsister."

"Sister??" My eye brows knitted together. This night just keeps getting better and better. "What room is she sleeping in?"

"Your brothers' old room." She folded her arms and shook her head at me. "Just go to bed, maybe you'll wake up with a better attitude." She sneered. I rolled my eyes and pushed past her. I yanked my suitcase up the stairs and walked past Sheila. She smelled really good, it was impossible not to notice. Like mint or something...

"I know this must be weird." She whispered as soon as my mom went back outside.

"What would you know about it?" I snapped, throwing my door open and tossing my luggage inside.

"You're not the one living in a strangers home without your mum." She said pointedly. I bit the inside of my cheek, i'm such an ass. I reminded myself to ask her what happened to her mum tomroow.

"Yeah that sucks. Hey im sorry but im tired." I muttered, closing my door in her face. Finally. Time to sleep.
