LUKE'S POV:

I shot the boys another dirty look. "Yes, yes he does." I muttered wistfully.

"I'd tap that." Mikey grinned.

"No you wouldn't." I cast him a steely gaze and he narrowed his eyes.

"If I didn't know any better I'd say Luke is crushing on his sister." Mikey said, looking at the other guys. "That's kinda sick."

My cheeks burned. "Let's get three things straight. First, we're not related. Second, Gus and my mom are not married. Thirdly and lastly, I don't like her."

All three of them erupted into laughter. How-fucking-annoying. "You guys can leave now." I said dryly.

They didn't even say anything or stop laughing as they walked out of my room and out of my house. What douche bags.

I walked down stairs after I was sure they were gone and mum caught me off guard by saying, "You need to do something with your life."

"What do you mean by that?" I muttered, squinting at my mom.

"I mean exactly what I said. You can't just stay at home all day and do nothing. Get a job, go to school, do something other than be lazy." She hissed, her hands planted firmly on her hips signaling this was a done deal.

"But mom." I groaned. "I have plenty of money...why do I need to do anything else?"

"R-E-S-P-O-N-S-I-B-I-L-I-T-Y!" She shouted. I flinched, she normally didn't yell.

"What about Sheila?" I demanded. "I haven't seen her go to work or school." I folded my arms.

"Sheila volunteers at a lot of places. And Luke, haven't you noticed that is summer? She's not back in school until September!" She added irritably. Wait a sec...how old is Sheila...?

"
How old is she??" I asked, eyes widened.

"Don't try to change the subject!" She snapped. "You have 3 choices. You either job shadow with Gus, go start applying to places and/or apply to colleges. I'll be damned if my kids are stupid."

I refrained from rolling my eyes then I had an idea. "Wait, can I volunteer with Sheila??" I hoped she'd say yes. But she just looked stumped.

With a heavy sigh she said, "Yes I suppose that works too."

I had to keep my excitement on the inside, I couldn't let it show that I kind of had a crush on her. "okay cool." I shrugged nonchalantly.

"Hi mum!" Sheila hopped down the stairs smiling brightly. My stomach dropped. She'd called her mum...I shivered. That's just so wrong.

They collided in a hug and I was forced to watch them act all mother and daughter. I had to wonder if my mum wanted a girl all this time.

"Sheila, are you going to the animal shelter today?" My mum asked.

"Yeah I am, I have to be there in 25 minutes." She answered, picking up a bright red apple and taking a generous bite out of it.

"Do you think Luke could tag along?"

Sheila rose a perfect eyebrow at me. "I don't think he's any match for a hundred pound malamute." She joked.

"I'm sure I could handle." I grinned, pushing her out the door with a playful shove. As the door closed behind us, I felt a wave of suspicion come from my mum.
