LUKE'S POV:
*BUZZ*
My phone rung in my pocket. MESSAGE FROM SHEILA.
My burger had just made it to my table when I opened the message.
SHEILA: Uhm Luke, you better come home quick.
Was all it said. I sighed irritably and scooted out of the booth. "Luke you haven't even touched your food." Mikey spoke up, mouth full of fries.
"You guys can eat it." I shrugged. They gave me weird looks. "Trouble back at home." Was all I had to say.
I would've asked the guys for a ride back since they picked me up, but i didn't want to be a dick. Good thing my house wasn't that far away. Maybe a kilometer (little less than a mile). On my horribly warm walk, i had time to think about the waitress.
Who was she..? I wondered. Maybe Sheila had sisters? The idea struck me as odd, Sheila definitely had the only-child vibe. I kicked a rock. I watched it spin out into the grass and felt my shoulders slump. Luke. I told myself. Let it go, it's not even important.
"But then again, maybe it it." I muttered to myself. When I was a few yards from my driveway i glanced up and saw Gus' Subaru in the driveway. "What the hell..."
My mind was racing, my heart was pounding. I quickly turned around and began to head away from the house. Then with an irritated groan and miniature temper tantrum that results in me flinging rocks and yelling, I turned back to my driveway.
I couldn't just leave Sheila to deal with the hell fire. This was my problem too.
I stepped through the door in the way somebody steps into the dentist office. Carefully. Quietly. In the maybe-they-won't-see-me kind of way. But of course they saw me. They were sitting at the dining room table intervention-style once again.
Poor Jack was also seated around the table of doom.
Sheila's eyes looked troubled and her hair was messy in the way I liked. But I was too focused on Gus's narrowed eyes to really pay attention to that.
"Sit." Mum snapped. I complied immediately, scooting out the closest chair and sinking down into it quickly. Her eyes were watering a little...
"So uhm, how were the Bahamas?" I cleared my throat.
"How many times have you slept with my daughter?" Gus demanded.
Woah talk about catching me off guard. I stared wide eyed at him for a quick second. Think Luke, think. I swallowed hard. "0 times. Never." I blurted. He gave me an unconvinced look.
"He means it dad." Sheila mumbled.
"Shut up!" He roared. I don't think I'd ever seen him so bent out of shape. And he did not just fucking yell at Sheila.
"Don't yell at her!" I shouted.
Gus rose from his seat, knocking it back and behind him. He seemed to be making a move towards me but Jack stepped in his way. Gus was taller but Jack had swollen muscles all over his body, easily out-weighing Gus.
"Sit back down Pops." Jack ordered. What Jack commands, Jack gets. A steely gaze of undetermined dominance passed between them, but Gus slid back into his seat.
"Not another word from you, runt." Gus said. I just rolled my eyes and crossed my arms.
"Luke." Mum began, i refused to look at her. "Look at me." I still didn't look.
"Luke." Jack muttered softly. All hail king Jack.
I turned my stony gaze to her as if to say 'i don't give a crap what you're about to say.'
"What's been going on between you two?" I could tell from her voice that she was genuinely distressed. That put a pang in my heart but I was still fired up and furious.
I quirked an eyebrow at her and pointed to Gus. She gave me an odd look. I stared at Jack, knowing he knew what I was suggesting.
"Gus told him 'not one more word' so he's not talking." Jack explained.
"Oh for the love of Christ." Jack grumbled, shaking his head.
"Speak." Mum said.
"Nothing's been going on between us. Why the hell are you even home? You gave us a babysitter, set up camera's, what the hell mum? That's bullshit. I can't even live comfortably in my own home!" I shouted.
"How do you think I feel? I go to bed every night wondering if you two are shagging upstairs!" She retorted.
"Well were not." I snarled.
"Then explain to us what you were doing last night." Gus spoke up. My skin pricked as I thought about the magical night with Sheila.
"Nothing? I stayed in my room and wrote music, I can't speak for Sheila." I lied. I guess I should've known that they were well aware of where we were so I shouldn't have lied. It was worth a try.
"Luke, do you think i'm stupid?" Gus asked.
"Yes." I chirped happily. His face turned 50 shades of red.
"Well then i guess you didn't know that i'm good friends with the security guard at the community pool." He huffed. Oh so that's how we got caught. I mused silently.
"No I did not know that. Good to know!" I smiled, knowing I was pissing him off to no extent.
"He sent me some interesting video clips from last night and said he was worried about my daughter breaking and entering." Gus said, glaring at Sheila.
"Whoops. Won't happen again." I cast him a wary, uncaring glance.
"You're right. It won't." Mum said. "Because Sheila and Gus are moving out."
