LUKE'S POV:

"Wasn't there supposed to be a rehearsal?" Sheila spoke up halfway to the venue. "Like.. Last night?"

"It'll be okay. As long as we're happy." Mum draped her arm over Gus who repaid her with a smile. Gross.

Sheila's facial expression literally read; "whatever" as she leaned back and stared irritably out the window.

We pulled up to the venue and I honestly wasn't taken aback. It was a plain looking, short white building. "When does the wedding even start?" I muttered, analyzing the empty parking lot.

"In a couple hours. We needed to come early and make sure the decorations were how we wanted them." Gus replied dryly.

Oh of course. I rolled my eyes inwardly. As soon as the car stopped, I strolled quickly into the building.

"Woah." The surprise slipped off of my tongue. Baby blue, silver and white themes were draped around the room. There was a huge chandelier hanging from the center, casting flickers of light on the floors.

I walked down the aisle that my mom would soon walk down, dragging my fingers along the top of the pews.

"Oh my gosh!" Sheila gasped, walking in behind me.

"This is almost exactly what we asked for!" I heard my mum squeal.

"Did you pay for this?" I asked my mum, motioning towards the grand decorations.

"No honey, Gus did!" She squealed again, hugging him tightly. Then I had to wonder if mum married HIM for HIS money.

Just then a little, exhausted looking lady ran in from a door and gathered my mum in her arms.

"Oh my gosh!" She smiled. "You saw Gus on the wedding morning! That's bad luck!" She shrieked, dragging my mum behind the stage.

"Gus!" A man walked in with a beer gut and an Aussie accent called.

"Sam!" Gus grinned, giving the man a hug. "Nice to see yah."

"Well of course." Sam said. "So today's the day." He huffed.

"Today's the day." Gus replied. "Oh!" He exclaimed turning to Sheila. "This is my daughter Sheila!"

"Pleasure to meet you, love. I've heard lots about you!" Sam said, shaking her hand.

"And who's this fine young man?" Same asked, gesturing to me.

"Oh, this is Luke." Gus said dryly, purposely brushing me off. "Anyways, Let's go meet up with other grooms." I got up to go with them but Gus looked me dead in the eye and said, "stay here."

With an eye roll, a dramatic sigh and a bad headache, I fell back into a pew. Sheila mimicked me and dropped next to me.

"This. Sucks." Was the last thing she said to me before the wedding began.

The cliche American wedding anthem, "here comes the bride" rung through the room. I glanced around the room that had filled up somehow in the past two hours. Everyone looked so happy.
My mom appeared through two wide swinging doors flanked by two of my nieces. We all stood.

I had to be coaxed to my feet by Sheila.

Mum looked beautiful or whatever. But knowing she had worn that dress before made me sick. The preacher went on and on as they said their vows and I felt myself falling asleep.

"Are there any objections?"

I perked up, but Sheila punched my thigh and I slumped back down. "You're no fun." I mumbled.

"Do you, Liz Hemmings take Gus Duddy to be your lawfully wedded husband?" The preacher asked.

"I do!" She grinned.

"And do you, Gus-"

"Of course I DO!!" Gus interrupted him, pulling my mom into a sloppy kiss. Everyone cheered- except me.

Then I suddenly got very very happy. That's because the reception would have my third favorite thing behind music and Sheila. Booze.
