Life has it's own ways of shocking me. It keeps pushing me to reach a point of giving up. I mean, wouldn't it be easier to let the river pull you down, than to struggle to get back up? But sometimes you have to swim against the current to stay alive. I feel like someone is chocking me up. Every word said or breath taken detaches my soul. I'm just tired. Emotionally and physically.
Adam has been unconscious for five hours now. He slipped and hit his head hard on a rock by the river. After that, everything went blurry from the screaming, to the ambulance. I thought this was life's attempt of a sick joke to me. That I lose everything good in life. But you didn't lose him, Lesley. You're over exaggerating. Maybe I am. But my heart will eternally twinge. Doctor Ryan said, "he will be alright. We just need to give him some time to rest."
"Are you sure?" I replied, concern in my voice.
"He is going to be okay. Don't worry," he smoothers me.
It's been more than five hours. It's been more than five hours since I've been counting the seconds on the clock that's hanging on the dull white wall. I glance at Adam and find him fast asleep. He looks so innocent and warm. I would give anything to crawl onto his lap and hug him forever. I break my stare and follow the trail of tube attached to his arm. I rub my forehead, refusing to wait anymore. Before I know it, I fix myself aside him on the hospital bed shaking him awake. "Adam! Adam, wake up,"
He doesn't.
It would be so sleeping beauty if I kiss him awake but it's worth a try. I lean over him and press my lips to his. He doesn't respond.
God dammit.
I sigh and stand up to go back to the coach but my head jerks back as my hand is yanked. Before my mind processes what's happening, my lips collapse with Adam's and my heart skips a beat. His kiss is soft but urgent. Our lips move with unison and our bodies follow. He runs his fingertips up my forearm, leaving a trail of goosebumps blooming in their wake. I could feel his warmth seep into mine. My hands dig into his hair and he pulls me closer. I move my hands down and rap them around his neck, taking him all in. He responds directly as he snakes his arm around my waist and deepens the kiss.
Someone clears his throat.
I back away fast from him as the doctor stands by the door, amused. He enters and I look down to Adam who has a big smirk stapled on his face.
"How are you feeling?" The doctor addresses Adam.
"Pretty good actually," he replies as he winks at me. I turn my head to hide my blushed face from his remark.
"I'm glad," he pauses. "You've hit your head pretty badly, and it might result in a small concussion but it's nothing to worry about," the doctor reassures.
"Umm, yeh, good. Can I leave?" Adam asks impatiently.
"That's not a problem, you just have some papers to sign and you'll be ready to go," the doctor smiles, nods in my direction and turns to leave.
Adam reaches out his hand toward me,"so where were we?"
And I'm pissed now. "How could you push me over when I didn't want to? I could've died out there," I say as I yell and push him at his chest.
His face drops into a puppy dog face, "I thought you might do me some chicken soup now that I'm ill and not hit me."
"Well, I'm not like everyone you know," I pout and cross my arms.
He removes his cover as he places his feet on the ground. "No, stay in bed! Don't get up, you need to rest," I demand.
He looks up to meet my eyes, "I think we both know I rested a bit too much," he replies. As he spoke, I couldn't help but stare into his eyes. They were enthralling, like sparkling kaleidoscopes of color. They were celery green, but also ocean blue. And for some reason, they looked like they had seen a lifetime, when in reality they had only seen a fraction.
"Come here," he demands as he open his arms.
It's a such a small order that tugs at your heart strings. I crawl into his lap, and feel his warmth shiver up my spine. He raps his toned arms around my body, and kisses my forehead, smoothly. We stay like this for as long as I can remember. I don't mind because he's my safe road.
At this moment, I know that I would share my lifetime with him in a heartbeat.
