"What would you like to order?" The waitress asks us. She's blonde with hazel eyes that match perfectly with her skin color. She attempts to cover her exhaustion with a weak smile but fails miserably. In one hand she has a notebook and in the other a pen, as she awaits our response.
Spencer clears his throat, "we will have 3 plates of 5 delicious pancakes and 3 cups of orange juice, please."
She writes it down, nods, and makes her way to the counter.
We are in a dinner that is not far away from my house. The walls are decorated with quotes and vintage pictures, and a front trunk of a red car is nailed. In front of me, Spencer is seated and Riley is to his left. I insisted on getting Riley with us hoping to lighten up the mood. And it's working. These boys have cracked three laughs from me already.
"Lesley, do you want to know about Spencer's embarrassing moments?" He asks as Spencer lightly slaps his shoulder. They both laugh as they exchange an inside joke.
"Oh, please share," I say.
He makes a thinking face as his finger rubs his chin, "Mmm.. Well, once we were at a supermarket, just around the corner from here," he points with his finger.
"So we got a grocery cart and walked in. At first, Spencer somehow kept struggling with the cart because if he wasn't moving, it wouldn't. Eventually, he gave up and gestured for me to get what he wants. I was totally fine with it, of course," he looks in Spencer's direction and winks.
"Please don't share the rest.." Spencer hisses.
Riley rolls his eyes as he continues with a devilish smirk plastered on his face,"So it was our turn at the cash register, and Spencer couldn't get away from the cart. Literally.
After paying and all, we went to the car to place our grocery in the trunk. And when we were done, Spencer returned the cart. I was watching him from a distance, waiting for him to come back.
Five minutes passed.. Ten minutes passed... Fifteen minutes passed... And I lost my patience. I stormed right to him, demanding to know what's taking him so long," Riley says as Spencer interjects, "hey say the the truth of the story. Your version of it is wrong."
"Fine. You tell her then what took you so long," Riley leans in as he places his hand under his chin, holding his head.
I feel Spencer's eyes widen as he blushes. It takes me off guard because I never imagined Spencer is the shy type. His figure reads: I'm the guy your mother warned you about.
"Do you see the redness of his face, Lesley?" Riley asks.
"If you're talking about the tomato sitting in front of me, then yes," I joke.
Spencer chuckles as Riley picks up where he left, "I found him stuck to the cart. His front jeans button was stuck between the metal of the cart.
Don't ask me how or why or I don't know what. It is what it is."
"Umm... And how did you manage to be sitting right here now?" I ask, urging him to continue.
"Riley.." Spencer warns as he shakes his head, knowing what's going to hit him.
"Well, I did something stupid but hilarious," Riley laughs.
"Oh no," Spencer joins him.
"So I made him hold tight to the wall as I grabbed the cart and sped it away as fast as I can. And it worked actually. He wasn't attached to it anymore but...
... neither were his pants," they both burst into laughter.
My eyes widen. What the hell...
"Just right there stood a ten years old with cute purple shoes and a baby face. She cried mommy and sprinted to her at the sight of Spencer's pink bunny underwear," Riley chuckles.
