The locket still shines in my grasp. I've held it closed for about an hour now. I want to open it, to look inside and have the memories come flooding back, but I know if I allow my myself that sweet previlage tears will flood too. I simply hold it close to my heart beat, where he should be. There's a meeting soon, but I don't want to go. They don't have the same pizzazz that they did when Hangi was around.
I'm too lazy to put on my uniform, so I head out in black sweatpants and a white pull over. I had found them in Levi's drawers, and as expected they were neatly folded and has been embedded with his scent. I smell it every- cough, moment, cough- now and then. I lumber out of bed and down the halls to the meeting room.
Sasha and I had taken over the Scout's for the most part since the eh, "incident" a year ago. About thirty of us had avoided the same fate as those who dissappeard. It took a lot of speeches and blackmail to keep the Scout Regiment standing. The hardest part was finding new recruits. Non surprisingly, not too many cadets wanted to join after word of the M.I.A. spread, but Sasha and I managed to sway 277 to join. Her and I were determined to rebuild the Scout Regiment bigger and more powerful than before.
Inside Sasha, Nanaba, Samson, Christa, and Isabelle waited for me. Samson Brighton had joined shortly after that expedition. He's tall with a lean, muscular build. His shaggy brown hair swayed to one side and set off his electric blue eyes. His hopes of joining were to free all of mankind from the titans and avenge his younger sister Jaclyn. Sweet, but cliche. Isabelle Love, an adorable five foot doll with the temper of a drunken Irish. Her red hair is strung into a messy, braided bun. Her big, ebony eyes smoldering as she scratches at her freckles. Utterly adorable.

Easing beside Sasha, she looked to me and smiled. "Hey," she coughed. Her expression is sunken and gaunt has consumed her cheeks. She's been worrying me lately. The past weeks she's been eating like a normal person and her goofball cheerfulness has vanished. I can't say I'm exactly the same either, but I've been trying make my peace. Currently: failing.
"Straw," I respond, trying to get a giggle out of her. She only smiles a little wider and then turns back to the table. A wide sheet has been lain out. Bold, empty T's formed a large triangle. Each five was marked by a title and area. "This was Erwin's strategy for outer wall surveying. Allowing faster coverage and less casualties. We're going to use this," Sasha paused. Taking in a deep breath before finshing. "to get to Shiganshina." Shiganshina.
"What?" Isabelle exclaimed, slamming her fist against the tabletop! "An expedition to Shiganshina will get us all killed. No doubt." She clearly is against the idea, I, however was already for it. "It's a risk were going to have to take." Sasha was calm speaking, but I could see there was a twitch in the way she moved. "What got you wanting to head south?" Sam asked. The room, went eerily silent and tension became thick in the air. Sasha fiddled with her ponytail. She groaned faintly. I could see she didn't want to address the topic, but now she had no choice.
"I think...... that maybe, just maybe......... they could still be alive." Still silent she continues on saying, "I know that's a long shot. A whole year in titan territory. No one could survive even a day. Then again those troops weren't no one, we're they? Humanity's strongest, humanity's hope, Erwin Smith, Armin Arlert, Mikasa Ackerman, Hangi Zoe. People like them aren't born, they're made, for a specific purpose. They were the strongest amongst us and I personally believe that when you put all of them together you have an unstoppable force."
No noise or protest, just quiet. "That is why I believe that they are still alive." I nodded and watched for the others to react. "I concur," Nanaba said swiftly. She's in. Isabelle crossed her arms, her head tilting down, but I could see her lips wiggling. "Fine! Count me in!"
"Me too," Samson added. Isabelle sighed and shook herself. "I'm so gonna regret this."

We went over and finalized the plan. Everything was set and done, all we needed now was the approval of Darius. Sadistic old man he is. After the meeting I lumbered back to my room and flopped into the bed. The heart bounced against the mattress and caught my attention. I placed it between my fingers, debating whether I open it or not. Don't do it. But I want to. You can't do it. All I have to do is place in a nail. You'll regret it. I want to see him so badly. Finally I reluctantly give in and split the locket.
There he is. Smiling, staring, my beautiful captain. I feel numb as a lump grows in my throat. You will not cry. I repeat it over and over in my head, but I give in to that desire as well. Cool tears roll over my burning cheeks. I sob into he sheets and then turn back to the picture. My fingertips outline the heart's frame and I gingerly press my lips to the photo.
I knew this would happen. I knew I would cry and bawl and miss him and want him more than before. Subconsciously I feel for hia hand across my chest, but am heartbroken when all I feel is the fabric. I clutch the material and inhale it deeply. Mmmm, the spice. The alluring spice. My eyes hang on the photo. I'm not sure how long I lay there with the shirt to my nose and my eyes locked on the pendant. It must have been a while because I suddenly myself being lulled to sleep. Everything begins to fade into black. Levi, I'm coming.
