The phone rang at 3:37am.

Rikki's arms get tighter around me.

"Should you go get that?" He wonders half asleep.

"CC'll get it." I mumble as the phone gets picked up. "See."

I snuggle back into Rikki. I leave for Ruck Wars in the morning, it's nearing the end of April. I want to sleep as long as I can because I don't know how much I'll be able to sleep all weekend. Rikki kisses my neck bone and his hands rub across my stomach.

Just as I go to fall asleep, there's a knock on my knock. The door opens in the next second and light creeps in. CC stands in my doorway only wearing boxer shorts.

"Bee, there's a problem." He says quietly and I push myself up. Rikki groans.

"What's wrong?" I rub sleep out of my eyes.

"Dad was in a car accident, he's in critical condition. Bee, they say he could die." CC says and I turn on the bed side light.

Rikki sits up beside me and watches me and CC.

My dad could die? Dads don't die, dads make their daughters feel like princesses, dads make you laugh when you want to cry, dads are a daughter's first love and a son's first hero. Daddys can't die. I need my dad to walk me down the aisle. I need my daddy to give me away to Rikki when we get married. Rikki hasn't even met my dad, my dad may die?

"When can we leave?" I wonder.

"We got a flight at 8:30." CC says. "Try to get some sleep, Bee." He closes the door.

Yeah, try to get some sleep Bee! You're dad is on death row and try to be fully rested to see your daddy die! Fuck me!

But wait, Robyn. My dad is the closest thing she's ever had to a dad.

"Baby girl?" Rikki asks quietly.

"Mm?" I answer.

"CC's right. I hate saying it but it's true. You need to rest, there's nothing you can do right now." He tells me.

I lay down but I can't close my eyes.

I never realized how close we all were. The band, Jamie, and I are all packed ready to fly to New York. When I had told Jamie what was going on she said 'screw rugby, my friend needs me'. I love her like she's my family.
