IV. - Her -

The two spent the next few days catching up with each other through friendly coffee dates. Alden took this time to know her as much as possible. Maine is the type of person he definitely wants to hang with.

"Wait, do you have a boyfriend?" Alden asked, catching her off guard.

"What? No ... I'm single." she replied.

Alden smiled and looked away.

"Why'd you ask?"

"Nothing. It's actually kind of obvious that you're single." he replied with a grin on his face.

"Why?" the young girl asked him.

"Because if you have a boyfriend you wouldn't be here with me." he whispered, pressing his lips on her ears. Being the ticklish girl that she is, Maine pulled away and glared at him.

"What are you even talking about? That's so rude."

"How is it rude? I'm just telling the truth."

"You don't have to be a dick about it."

"Fine, I'm sorry. My bad."

"I hate you." Maine thought herself before they started walking towards his car. The two got awfully close in just a small amount of time. 

"Why is your face like that?"

"Why are you still breathing?" she snapped back.

"Oh God are you pissed?" he asked and then started pinching her cheeks.

Maine pulled away and smiled, she realized that this friendship should be a drama-free zone in order for it to last. Alden placed both of his hands on the wheel and apologized for what he did.

"Look, I'm sorry."

"Apology accepted."

"Already?"

"Yeah."

"Nice." he then smiled that otherworldly smile. Maine felt like she's in a trance, his smile is so hypnotic and amazing.

" How about you ... do you have a girlfriend?" Maine asked. Alden was caught by surprised, making him stop the car suddenly.

"Oh God sorry, are you alright?" Alden asked and so she nodded.

"Sorry, I asked." she uttered, knowing exactly what his answer would be.

"No."

"What?" Maine then turned to his side so she can look at him.

"No, I don't have a girlfriend."

"What happened? It's impossible, you literally make girls and gays fall in love with you with just one look. You're like ... you know , walking sex. How did that happen?"

"That's not true ... you're not in love with me yet." he replied, making her uncomfortable and shy.

"I'm glad it's clear to you. Seriously crackhead, what happened?"she asked again, trying her best to fight his charms.

"It just didn't work out."

"Do you still love her?"

"Why do you wanna know?"

"Nothing."

"Fine, I do."

A few minutes after, they reached Maine's house. "Should I see you tomorrow?" Alden asked her.

"Yes, we have classes tomorrow remember?" she replied . Alden just smiled and told her to take care.

"Thank you. I'm really glad you're back." the young girl replied and then smiled back at him.

Maine got out of Alden's car and watched him drive away. As soon as she got inside, she noticed her mother and sister by the window. It's extremely obvious that they were looking at her.

"Who's that?" her mother asked, giving her a sly smile. 

"Just a friend." she replied, fighting the urge to blush.

"A friend?" her sister asked.

"Yeah.. why?" she asked before realizing what they meant.

"Oh my God you guys! He's just a friend!"

"Right ... a friend. Cool, we believe you." her sister replied before getting up from the couch.

"He is just a friend damn it."

"Whatever you say." her mother replied and walked also walked away. Maine just let out a sigh of frustration, she knows she will never hear the end of this.

Alden got home half an hour later, there he saw Andrew sitting on the couch. He tossed his bag at his friend to catch his attention.

"Dude!" he yelled and gave Alden a tight hug.

"When did you get here?" Alden asked

"This morning, where the fuck have you been?"

"I have classes, dummy. Where's -"

"Vanessa?"

"Yeah."

"She's in our house , wanna see her?"

"No, not really."

"Do you still love her?"

"You know what I feel about that. Come on let's go to my room upstairs."

"Are you gonna have sex with me?" Andrew asked, sounding shocked.

"I will if you don't cut that out. Fuck you." he replied before they both laughed.

The two then started running upstairs but had to stop midway since they heard a car pull up in the driveway. Alden knew his parents shouldn't be back this early and so he sprinted towards the door. The young guy got out and saw a familiar face, she took a deep breath and smiled at him.

"Vanessa?"

It's past 7:00 pm when Maine's Mom started knocking on her bedroom. "I'm gonna sleep early." she yelled, not wanting to talk to them again.

"Jake's here."

"What?" Maine then got out of the room and headed downstairs, only to see Jake sitting on the couch with a bouquet of flowers and chocolates in his arms.

Maine's heart sank, she knows exactly what it means. She took a deep breath and then approached him.

"It's already getting late, what are you doing here?"

"Maine ... I wanna court you again."
