There's not a single word that could describe how nervous she was the moment they pulled up in front of his house. She looked out of the window and stared at the majestic mansion.

"Don't worry, it's just dinner." Alden whispered.

"I don't think I can do this. What if they don't like me?" she asked.

"It's not hard to like you. And besides, they don't have a right to hate you."

"What do you mean they don't? Alden, they're your parents." Maine replied, reminding him not to hate them so much.

"Yes, they are. But trust me, most of the time they're not."

Maine kept quiet for a few minutes. She can tell he's also nervous and that he's just hiding it. Suddenly her phone started ringing, Maine looked at the screen and saw Jake's name flashing across it.  not wanting to interact with him, Maine rejected his call.

"Who's that?"

 "Jake."

 "Alright."

A few minutes later, they went inside the property. Maine's eyes widened at how beautiful the place is.

"Good evening, Young Master." one of the maids greeted Alden.

"Young Master?" she asked, trying her best not to laugh.

"That's what they call me here. It's ridiculous, I swear." he answered, blushing a bit.

"Oh, she's pretty!"

Maine looked up and saw a very beautiful lady standing right at the top of the stairs. Her heart started going wild, she has an idea who it is.

"Your Mum?" she asked him and he nodded right away. Mrs. Richards then came down and did a cheek to cheek greetings with Maine.

"I'm Amelia Richards, Alden's Mom." she said , giving her a very sweet smile.

"I'm Maine Mendoza." she replied and then smiled at her.

"She seems nice." Maine whispered to Alden as soon as Mrs. Richards walked away from them.

"Be careful. I don't know why they're doing this. " he warned before they walked towards the dining room.

There, he saw Alden's father. He looks a lot like him, now Maine knows what Alden would look like once he gets older.

 "She must be the girl."

"I must be it." Maine replied and tried her best to smile but it came out awkwardly.

 ---

Alden's heart is pounding against his chest. His father is not saying a single word but it looks like he bought their girlfriend deal.

He doesn't know what this dinner will bring to him but he's pretty sure that if Maine pleases them and surpasses their tests, then there's a huge chance that they'll accept Vanessa once the two of them get back together.

"What's your family's business?" Mrs. Richards asked. Alden shot her a look but she didn't care at all.

"Um, my father was a hotel manager."

"Really? what hotel?" his Dad asked. Alden kept his eyes on Maine and saw that she's getting uncomfortable. Knowing how sensitive this topic is for her, he intervened.

"Umm, is it really necessary to know what hotel? Dad, did you know Andrew's family also transferred here?" the young guy asked, hoping to be able to change the topic.

"Yes I do. I talked to Henry, now Maine... sweetheart, what hotel? Maybe it's our favorite one?" he asked with such eagerness.

"That's just gross, come on." Alden said, hoping to throw them off.

"He was a manager at Bellevue Hotel." the young girl said, causing Alden's parents to stop and look at her.

"Bellevue Hotel?" Mrs. Richards asked.

"Yes ma'am. But he was fired last week."

Alden's heart sank. He suddenly remembered overhearing a talk a few nights ago about how his Mom got a hotel manager fired.

He looked at Maine and saw that she's on the verge of tears. Alden held her hand and she looked at him.

"What?" she asked.

"Nothing." he replied and looked away. His parents are the reason why her family is suffering right now.

"Shit." he whispered before standing up. Everyone looked at him, including Maine.

"Are you alright?" his mother asked.

"Yes I am, but it's time for Maine to go. She has a curfew." he replied, lying to her parents so he can take Maine home.

"I do?" Maine asked.

"Yes, you do. Come on now, love."

---

Maine found his actions weird but just went along with it. To make things worst, he's dead silent from the mansion all the way to her house.

"Here we are, good night." he said.

"Alden, what's wrong?"

"Nothing."

"I can sense there's -"

I said nothing! Just go and sleep will ya?"

Startled by his anger, Maine quickly got out of the car. She stood there at the side walked and watched him drive away. She can sense that there's something wrong, but since he did not  say a single word about it then Maine will do her best to find out herself.
