XXI. - I See You -

 "Are you sure about this?" Maine nervously asked Alden.

"Yes. Full immersion is the best way to convince everyone of our relationship." the young guy replied, glancing at her before he took a turn towards the church. 

Maine started to become nervous. She tried to think about all the pros of her introducing Alden as her boyfriend but she can't list one other than her own desire to make their fake relationship real. 

The young guy's car pulled up right in front of the church. Maine looked out and saw her entire family waiting for them. 

"Are you alright?" Maine asked Alden after realizing he's suddenly gone quiet.

"Yeah." Alden answered, smiling nervously. 

"Do you still want to do this?" she asked. 

"Yes." 

 "You do know we're still acting right? That this ... all this ... is fake?" 

"Of course ... this is all an act. We  just need full immersion." Alden answered, assuring her that everything's well and good. 

"Good ... very good." Maine thought to herself. 

The young guy then got out of the car and opened the door to her side. Maine smiled at him as they both walked towards her family. Maine can already see her parent's reactions , her Mum's is still alright ... though the same cannot be said for her father. 

"What took you so long?" Mrs.Mendoza asked her daughter. 

"I ... I had to take a bath again." she replied in an embarrassed tone. 

"Fine ... You're Alden right?" she asked and so he nodded. 

"Good Morning Ma'am ... Good Morning Sir" Alden greeted them with a radiant smile on his face. 

"Good Morning too son , you're cute ... so are we ready to go inside?" she asked. 

Maine glanced at her father and saw him eyeing Alden closely.  The seriousness on his face made her even more nervous. 

"What's good in the morning?" Mr. Mendoza then asked.

"Sorry ... sir" the young guy replied and kept his head down. She was gonna call out her Dad for his hostility but then the bell rung and so they all went inside instead.

"Dear God ... please ... please help me." Alden prayed over and over again. After he saw Mr. Mendoza's serious face, he quickly regretted his plan. He glanced over his shoulder and saw the death stares that Maine's Dad and Brother are giving him. His heart continued to beat and his hands went on to shake. He gulped and then hoped to God that everything they did will be worth it in the end.

"Are you alright?" Maine asked after Alden decided not to speak a single word all throughout the mass. 

"Of course." he replied and smiled at her. He then tucked some of the loose strands of her hair right behind her ear.

 "Thank you." Maine told him before she looked at her family and realized they're all staring at them. 

"We're gonna eat at a restaurant, come with us." Mrs. Mendoza said, pertaining to Maine and Alden as her subjects. He nodded and so did she. 

"Can you please remind me some other time that it's not good to meet your fake girlfriend's family ... your Dad looks like he's gonna kill me." Alden whispered before they started walking towards his car. Maine just laughed and slapped his arm.
