Maine spent the night crying. Alden admitting his feelings for her only made their situation even more complicated. She's still head over heels for him. Alden on the other hand is confused on which one is more important, Maine or Vanessa.

"You can do this okay?" she told herself before she got out of the room. Maine then went downstairs, only to see Hannah sitting on the couch.

"What are you doing here?" she asked.

"Thought you'll be in need of a company."

"Why?"

"I know last night didn't go well for you and Alden."

"How did you know?"

"You didn't call me and gushed about his dimples or his extremely round bubble butt. I know when something's wrong and as your best friend, it's my task to help you get through it." Hannah said with a smile on her face.

Maine smiled and hugged her tightly. She closed her eyes and buried her face on her best friend's shoulder.

"Hannah?"

"What?"

"Is it still worth fighting for?"

"Anything that is important will always be worth fighting for."

Alden woke up the next day feeling the same amount of sadness he did before he met got reunited with Maine. The words she told him last night affected him so much. She's right, he has to choose.

After a good half an hour of just sitting on his bed, Alden stood up and started preparing for school. He's going to do his best to talk to Maine today and hopefully turn things around for them.

"You're going to school already?" his mother asked.

"Yep. Bye." he replied and kissed her on the cheek. Alden then made his way out as quickly as possible. The young guy is keen on saving on whatever he and Maine has. He's going to choose her.

"He tried to call you but you did not answer?" Hannah asked Maine while they're walking down the hallway.

"Yes."

"Why?"

"I ... I don't know ... I guess ... I'm done." Maine uttered before letting out a tired sigh.

"How about the money you're gonna get?"

"He can keep it ... I couldn't accept it anyway ... you know, after what happened." Maine answered, wondering what her lfie will be after their deal is officially over.

"Speaking of." Hannah whispered. Maine looked on and saw Alden walking towards them. She and her ebst friend tried to walk away but he already caught up with them.

"Hey, can we talk?"

"I'm busy." Maine answered.

"Then after school."

"Alden ..."

"I'm serious. I'm not gonna back down now. I like you and if I have to prove it to you right now, I would do it." he uttered. Without thinking, Maine dared him to do so. Suddenly, he swooped in and kissed her on the lips. The world went into slow motion right on that moment. Maine felt her heart flutter but she did not push him away. She just enjoyed their own little world.

After what it felt like forever, he moved away and Maine got snapped abck to reality. She gazed at him and saw nothing but intense emotions in his eyes.

"Let's talk after class."

"Dude, I can't believe it. You actually fell for the girl." Andrew said.

"I know." Alden replied, grinning. He's free from the ghosts of his past. He's in love with Maine. And though Vanessa may still be important to him, her role in his life has changed. He no longer wants to take her back. He only needs her now as a friend.

"So what are you gonna do now?"

"I think I'm gonna have to turn our fake relationship into a real one."

Maine told Alden to meet her under the huge oak tree where everything started. She took a deep breath and asked herself if she's ready for ehr own decision.

Over the past couple of weeks, Maine went through a lot of things. And those situations caused her to learn new lessons. Valuable ones such as helping her come to the realization that she too is important, that her feelings are valid and that they are needed to be taken care of.

When Alden admitted the truth to her, Maine's walls crashed down hard. She's in love with him but at the same time she's afraid to gamble her heart with someone who is not sure of what he really feels like. The young girl is afraid to get hurt.

"Maine?"

She looked at her side and saw him walking towards her. Alden sat on the same bench and they started talking.

"What do you wanna talk about?" he asked.

"Us."

"Maine I meant it. I meant every word I said."

"You're not the problem, I am." she said before wiping her tears away.

"What do you mean?"

"Alden, I don't think I can do this anymore. All of it."

"You want to give us up?"
