The weekend has passed but still, Maine's mind is clouded with thoughts. She decided to go to school early to finish some of her assignments. While waiting for a cab to drive by, a car pulled up right in front of her.
"Jake?" she asked after seeing his face.
"Hop in, my lady." he uttered, giving her a smile.
"Are you serious?"
"Yeah. Are you surprised? Did you seriously thought Alden's the only young guy who has a car in this town?"
"What? Hell no. And why would you say that? Are you jealous?"
"What? no. Just get in will ya?"
Knowing this conversation will not go anywhere else, Maine just let out a sigh before hopping in.
"Are you alright?" Jake asked her after a few minutes of silence.
"Yeah. Why?"
"You look problematic."
"I'm alright." she lied. Maine then turned her view on the sun that is about to rise on the horizon. Even though she finds Jake annoying at the moment, she will do her best to not drag him or any of her friends in the problem that she's facing.
"You're lying." he replied and then stopped the car.
"What?" Maine asked
"Nothing .... I ... ugh ... never mind." he replied before starting the engines once again.
It took them about half an hour before they reached the campus. Maine got out of his car and thanked him for the ride. Before he could ruin her day any further, she decided to walk away.
"Wait! Maine!" Jake called out, running after her.
"You're getting on my very last nerve." Maine thought to herself while walking towards the building. A few more moments and she saw Alden standing by the door.
"Hey." he greeted. But the thing is, she's already too pissed to even acknowledge his presence. Things got really bad after she heard Jake's voice again.
"Stop it Jake, will ya?"
"Sorry" he replied.
She looked at Alden and saw the confused expression on his face. Maine just took a deep breath and ran upstairs.
---
"Dude, do you have a problem with me?" Alden asked Jake, he can no longer ignore the hostility he's sensing from the other guy.
"Problem? what? no I don't." Jake answered before leaving him.
"You're a shitty liar." he whispered right before his phone started ringing. He pulled it out of his pocket and saw Andrew's name on the screen.
"Hey, are you at the campus?"
"Yeah, why? You wanna hang out? I'm not in mood for class anyway." Alden suggested.
"Nah. We're going to enroll."
"Enroll?"
"Yeah, me and Vanessa."
"Oh okay ... I guess I'll wait for you then."
"Okay, see ya!" Andrew replied before ending the call.
"This is not good, this is not good at all." he thought to himself right before the bell started ringing.
Still not in the mood to attend some of his classes, Alden started walking towards the parking lot. While on his way there, a thought crossed his mind.
"Vanessa has Riley, what if you can get her back by making her jealous?" a voice inside his head asked him. Alden stopped and one girl suddenly popped into his mind.
"Maine ... Maine and I can make her jealous."
---
Sometime that day , Maine received a text from Alden asking if she could be with him after class. Not wanting to get lost in her problems again, Maine said yes.
Maine and Alden met up under that huge Oak Tree in the park. The place is lit up with newly replaced light posts.
"How are you?" Alden asked Maine.
"I'm alright, why did you skip our classes?"
"Not in the mood."
"Why?"
"Life, by the way I know you're lying."
"What do you mean?" Maine asked, confused.
"You have a problem , say it."
"I don't have a problem."
"Yes, you do."
"Ugh, fine."
---
After hearing Maine's problem, Alden got another idea. He likes Maine a lot that's why he knows manufacturing chemistry won't be a problem. He took a deep breath and told her he can help.
"You? How?" she asked.
"Be my girlfriend."
"What?"
