Girlfriend For Hire || maiden. (Under Editing)

XII. - Making Peace -

The mall incident left Alden clueless. He doesn't know what to think about it , but he's pretty sure it should mean that their act is working. Its making Vanessa very jealous.

 "What happened to her?" Alden asked himself. He then pulled out his phone and called Maine, only for her to reject his call again.

The young guy then just let out a sigh. It's been a whole day since the last time he talked to her, and it's now making him think that whatever happened, it had to be so bad it made her want to avoid him.

"Alden, you fucker. What the hell did you do?"

Maine received several calls from Alden but she rejected them all. For the first time in a long time, she hated her own decision.

"Maybe you shouldn;t have accepted the deal." Maine whispered to herself. After yesterday's encounter, one thing became clear to her. Alden will always love Vanessa. And that if she ever falls for him, he wills till choose her ex. The mall happening made Maine realize that in the end, she will eventually get hurt.

Tons of thoughts raced inside her mind. And for the first time in a long time, Maine actually second guessed every single thing she did in her life. After what it felt like forever , the young girl got out of bed and grabbed her phone. She's going to call her friends and make it up to them.

It's almost lunch time when Alden reached Maine's house. he took a deep breath and pressed the button of their door bell. A few minutes later, her Mom came out.

"Hello!" she greeted.

"Good Morning Ma'am. Is Maine in there?"

"Aw, no she's not."

 "Do you know where she went?" he asked, willing to go to wherever she is just to see her.

"Her friend's house."

 "Umm ... who is this friend?"

 "Hannah, her best friend. You know her house right?" Mrs. Mendoza asked and so Alden shook his head from side to side. She then asked him again if what he's gonna say is important and can no longer wait.

"Yes, it's very important Ma'am. I need to see her right away." he replied.

"Okay, I'll draw a map for you."

"What are you even doing here?" Hannah asked after Maine walked inside her house.

 "I came to apologize."

 "Apologize for what? Breaking Jake's heart again?"

 "Let me finish my explanation first, will ya?"

 "Fine, Go explain yourself." Hannah snapped back.

 "I told Jake not to court me months ago and he still did it so technically it's not my fault." Maine explained before sitting on her couch.

 "But you could have been at least more sensitive towards him. The guy loves you , that's like ... you know ... a really sweet thing."

 "Hannah, we both know how persistent he is. If I didn't break his heart, he wouldn't stop."

 "You're lucky, Maine." Hannah whispered before sitting next to her.

 "Why?"

 "You have everything you want."

 "You know that's not true."

 "Well you have Jake."

 "Hannah.. please don't do this to me." Maine begged. Hannah's always been about Jake, but unfortunately, he can't see that.

 "You also have Alden."

That's when a solution dawned on Maine. The only way for her to fix their friendship is for her to come clean about her deal with Alden.

 "If ... If I'm gonna tell you a secret, would you forgive me?"

 "Depends."

 "It's about me and Alden."

 "Fine ... I'll accept the apology." Hannah replied before smiling at Maine. The young girl smiled back at her best friend and they hugged. 

 "Alden is not my real boyfriend."

 "What?"

 "He hired me as his girlfriend to make her ex jealous."

 "Again .. why?"

"So she'll get back with him.

 "Maine can't you hear me? Why? Why would you do that?"

 "Dad lost his job .... and I need money."

 "Why didn't you tell me earlier?"

 "It's because my parents can't find out. They'll kill me and then they will kill Alden for sure."

 "How about Jake? Does he know?"

 "Not yet. But please Hannah, don't tell anyone okay?"

 "Okay."

The two then heard the sound of a car pulling up in front of Hannah's house. Realizing that it is very familiar, Maine ran towadrs the window to check who it is. Her mouth fell open after step out of the driver's seat.She then walked out and confronted him.

"What are you doing here?" Maine asked him.

"I'm here to pick up my girlfriend."

 "You can drop the act. Hannah knows."

 "What? You told her?" RJ asked in a freaked out tone.

 "She did. Don't worry, I won't tell anyone." Hannah replied before raising her right hand. The young guy just sighed, another person is added into their secret.

 "You know I'm counting on you saying that and so I have a surprise." Alden uttered before opening the door to his car. He then took two flower bouquets that he bought along the way.

 "Thank you!" Hannah said happily. The young guy then turned to Maine, and handed her a dozen of red roses. 

 "I'm sorry."

 He saw the young girl  her a half smile and so he started smiling as bright as he could. 

 "Fine. But you also have to say sorry to Vanessa."

 "I already did Maine, a lot of times."

 "Sorry, I think I overreacted." she finally admitted.

 "You two should be a real couple." Hannah suggested. Both Maine and Alden exchanged looks. For a split second, he liked the thought of it. Maybe he has a slight crush on Maine, she's charismatic after all. 

 "How about Vanessa?" he asked himself. He still has feelings for his former flame, and he knows that as long as it's there , he can't be infatuated with anyone else.
