XV - On My Mind -

Maine woke up the next morning with a lighter chest. She was able to tell Jake everything, she came clean about the deal and the fake relationship they have to put so they can make Vanessa jealous

"Maine!" her Mom yelled. The young girl stretched her arms and legs before she walked out of the room. After Maine got downstairs, she quickly saw Hannah and Jake sitting on the couch. 

 "Hey guys." she greeted.. 

 "Eat your breakfast Maine, we have to do something." Hannah then told her. 

 "What is it?" 

 "We're going to watch a movie." Jake replied with a bright smile on his face. 

 "Ugh. Can't you two go by yourselves?"

 "Come on, we missed you." Hannah replied before she displayed her puppy eyes  on Maine. 

 "Fine, I will."  she replied, much to the delight of her two friends.

Alden barely slept. He stayed up all night thinking about Vanessa's confusing actions. He already know she's jealous but he can also tell there's something else inside of her aside from that. Suddenly, his phone started ringing. He pulled it out from under his pillow and checked the name. The caller is no other than Maine.  

 "Hello?" he asked. 

 "We don't have any plans for today, right?" 

 "You're free today ... why?" 

 "Nothing, I'm just gonna hang out with my friends."

 "Alright."

 "Are you alright?" Maine asked in a concerned tone.

 "Yeah, why?" Alden asked. 

 "Your voice seems different. Are you sick? tell me the truth."

 "I'm not. Just go enjoy your friends." Alden answered and quickly ended the call before she could even start nagging him. The truth is, Alden's feeling a bit under the weather. The young guy still can't sleep and so he just sat up and called his friend, Andrew.  

 " Hey Dude."

 "Hey." Andrew replied with his sleepy voice. 

 "Are you free today?"

 "I kinda wanna sleep all day. why?"

  "Nothing. I was just hoping you could come over and we can play video games."

 "Sorry dude, I'm really sleepy."

 "That's alright." Alden answered. A few moments after, the call ended. The young guy just sighed and slipped out of his bed. Since he has nothing to do, he just decided to roam the house. After a few minutes of looking around, he ended up in his parent's study room. 

Alden went inside and looked at the stack of papers piled up on his Dad's desk. He opened a couple of folders and saw a file about Maine's Dad. "Richard Mendoza" that's his name. 

The young guy read the file and realized that out of guilty, his parents gave Mr. Mendoza another job in one of their friend's hotel. Alden can't help but smile, for once they were able to fix their mistakes.

Maine, Hannah and Jake then drove to the nearest cinema to watch whatever movie is on, only to find that there's not a single movie worth watching. 

"I already watched all of these" Hannah whispered. 

"Let's just eat for now and figure out after what we should do." Jake suggested and so they both nodded. The three of them then left the cinema and went to a burger joint nearby. 

Maine can't explain it , but since she woke up this morning she can't help but check her phone if Alden left her a message. For some reason, a part of her is hoping he would at least ask her if she's fine. 

"What do you want?" Jake asked.

"Anything. I just wanna eat." she replied with a smile on her face. 

A few minutes later, Jake returned with three burgers in his hands . Maine quickly started eating her portion.

"This is good" she told them and they just agreed, eyes still glued at their beefy food.  

Suddenly, her phone started ringing. she checked who it is and saw Alden's name on her screen. She quickly answered his call, causing Jake to flinch. 

"Hello?' she asked. 

"Where are you?"

"Why?"

"I'm sick."

"I thought you're not sick?" Maine asked, raising her voice a bit. 

"I lied. Sorry." he replied and Maine heard him couch. She then proceeded to ask him if he'll need anything. 

 "Come over."

 "Ugh, I hate you."

 "Thanks" he replied and then ended the call.

 "Who's that?" Hannah asked. 

 "Alden," Maine replied before she took one more bite on the burger. The young girl then quickly gathered her stiff and stood up. 

 "You're leaving?" Jake asked. 

"Yeah. He's sick, I have to go there."

"Can't someone else take care of him?"

"He has parental issues, Hannah."

"I'll go with you" Jake uttered, standing up as well. 

"I don't think that's a good idea. I have to go guys, just think of this as your date." Maine told them before she left. 

It took the young girl almost an hour to reach his place. Maine stood right in front of the gate and watched it open by itself. The maids accompanied her inside the house and up to Alden's room. There she saw him sleeping. 

She moved closer to him and placed her hand on his forehead. 

"Oh my God , what happened with him?" she asked. 

 "He's still alright this morning, I don't know what he did." one of the maids replied. 

 "And he did not ask for your help?

 "He didn't, He called you instead." 

"Alright, can you make a good chicken soup? And please get me a towel and a basin of water. I will take care of him.
