"A ball?" I ask, complete disbelief a dominate thought.

"To announce that the princess died." The king explains, looking at the papers on his desk.

"Okay? And what makes you think I am going to stay?" I retort, leaning forward and picking at my nails.

"The fact that my son bares your mark and the fact that your orher maye is dead. I also see how you are towards Alex. You never leave his side as if you are afraid of something." He pauses and looks up. "What are you afraid of, Ash?"

I pause. "Will you...will you keep it a secret?"

He looks at me as if his looking for something before his gaze softens. "Yes, I will keep your secret."

I sigh and run a hand through my hair. "I'm...I'm afraid that I'm going to loose him. That he will die suddenly, that he will disappear. I've had people I use to care about disappear. I don't want him gone. That is why I am staying."

The king smiles. "Alright Ash, I have one more question for you. What's your favorite color?"

"Does this dress make me look fat?" I ask Alex as I turn and look at myself in the full body mirror.

The red dress hugs my torso and chest while fluffing out layers of thick red silk. Diamonds and sequins make a pattern on the torso. A dark red and black butterfly mask adorns my face, making my blue and black eyes appear bright while my hair is tied back into an elegant bun.

"No!" He instantly blurts, tying his dark red tie to match my dress. His suit is black with a dark red tie and undershirt. It makes his gray eyes seem to pierce into your soul.

"From they way you spoke, you are making it seems like you are lying." I tease him, putting a pair of black heels on.

"Do you think I could ever lie to you and get away with it?" I hear him ask as arms wrap around my waist. I look at him from the mirror in front of me and see his wearing his basic black mask, really making his eyes pop out.

I lean onto his embrace. "Yes, I don't monitor your heartbeat and your breathing. I try to act like a huamn around you."

"Try? Why thank you my princess." He kisses my neck making me giggle as my knees buckle.

"Hmmmm." I humm out, letting him support me.

"Come on, let's go."

"But that means I have to share you." I whine, turning in his arms to face him.

His gray eyes meet my two-toned ones and all he gives me is a smile. "Now, I spent all week with you. What is four hours of occasionally seeing me?"

"Torture!" I exclaim dramatically, throwing my arms around his neck and resting my head on his chest.

"Just today, Ash. But we have to go. We are already...almost an hour late." He unwraps my arms from around his neck and holds my hand. He smiles at me before leading me out of his room and down the steps.

"You go ahead, Ash. I forgot to grab something." Alex suddenly says, his brows furrowed and a small frown on his lips.

"You sure?" I ask as I lift my hand to fix his frown into a smile.

He smiles and kisses me. "I have to grab it. Don't worry. I will be right in there. If you don't believe me, listen to my heartbeat and breathing."

I nod. "I trust you."

He smiles and runs back from the way we came. I walk down the hall, pulling my shoulders back and standing tall.

Regal and royal. Act as your blood.

I sigh as the ballroom is before me. Guards line the walls and the stairs down. One thing that shocks me though is that Ethan is standing at the top of the stairs looking directly at me with wide eyes.

"Ash, you look beautiful." He whispers.

"Don't let your mate hear that or he will think you turned straight on him." I tease him.

Ethan chuckles and holds his arm out. "My princess. May I escort you down the stairs and into the mass of sweating human and wolf bodies?"

"Why, yes, you may." I respond while taking his arm.

An announcer states a new guest and many eyes turn at me.

Ethan escorts me down the steps and many men flock over to figure who I am. Good thing this is maquerade and no one knows who I am.

A teenage boy runs up to me and stands by my side as if he is guarding me. A few of the men laugh at him.

"Excuse me?" I speak softly to gain their attention.

The men turn to me.

"It is not nice to laugh at people. Laugh at yourself." They look at me confused before I point down.

Their pants are around their ankles and one of them even has pink heart boxers. I giggle when I realize another one has clouds on his.

They all turn bright red and rush to pull their pants up.

"Hey!" Ethan snaps, gaining everyones attention. He points towards us and everyone points and laughs.

"Next time, don't laugh." I warn them as I take the teen boy's hand and walk off.

"Ash, how did you get their pants off without touching them?" The teen asks.

"Jasper, I have powers. I used to use them for evil but now I'm trying to be better for Alex. I use them only if necessary."

"But that wasn't necessary." Alex's younger brother looks me in the eyes.

"They laughed at you!"

"I'm use to it. Everyone notices Alex and they never see me. I bet they didn't even know they were laughing at a prince. It is a masquerade ball."

"Yes but you have your father and brother's eyes, your mother's hair, and the same build as your father. They should know. I know."

"But you know me and I am always with you if you aren't around Alex."

"Jazz, do you not like your brother?" I ask softly.

"I love my brother but..." He looks away and stuffs his hands into his gray suit pockets.

"You're jealous of his power. That he is known." I whisper.

He nods. "Yeah. How'd you know?"

"I was...am the same way with my brothers."

"Have I meet your brothers?"

"No, Jazz, and I don't think you have." I whisper out.

He gives me a smile. "Would you like to dance?"

"I would love too."
