We dance smoothly to the music and earn applause at the end of the dance.

I smile and he pulls me in for a hug, completely taking me off guard.

"I have something for you." He announces quite loudly.

All eyes turn to us and I take a step back to look at him. "Something for me?"

He nods, a panicking look crossing his face. "I knew you before I knew Emma. I love you before I felt anything towards Emma. Then you left me, broken hearted and alone and show up six years later. You said you left strictly for buisness reasons, that your father controlled you, I believe you, but I have one simple question to the woman I still love."

Alex drops down on one knee in front of me and I gasp, my hands covering my mouth in shock. Pure determination takes over the panic.

"You deal with all my issues. You make me laugh when no one else can. You accept my family as if they are your own and you accept me. Baby, I love you and I always will. So will you do me the honors of marrying me?"

He loves me. He has never meant it like this before. He wants me to marry him. I never expected a formal proposal. Fuck, I never expected a proposal.

"Ash? You gonna respond?" Ethan mind links me.

"Yes!" I yell out, complete happiness in my voice.

Alex stands and I throw my arms around his neck.

"And you thought I would never propose." Alex scoffs quietly.

I laugh. He pulls away and slides an elegant golden ring on my finger.

I look at the golden ring and the diamonds all over it.

"Let's all dance!" The king hollers and joyful music fills the ballroom.

The king walks up to me. "May I have this dance?"

"Sorry, father, but I already asked my bride for the first dance." Alex cuts in.

The king's gray eyes widen slightly before he smiles. "I call this lady's next dance."

I smile as Alex leads me to the center of the dance floor. "You can dance in heels, right?"

"Yup!"

"Good because you are the only girl here who is brave enough to be wearing heels."

"Wanna know a secret?" I whisper as we set ourselves up to join in the dance.

"Sure."

"I can also run in heels."

Alex fakes a gasp. "What!? That is unheard of!"

I laugh and we join into the fast paced dancers.

We dance to a few songs before Alex hands me over to the king.

The king smiles and we take the side of the dancers. "I never realized how much my son missed you. All I see is him smiling when you are around."

"The same, sir." I respond. "I missed him more than anything."

"Did you watch over him?"

"Yes. I was always there. He was never harmed or even close. I just love killing assassins."

"You protected him?"

"Sir, I loved him back then. Arnen was supposed to be a permanent distraction, but I always noticed Alex. I never came back because I was afraid he would reject me."
