I walked into the cafeteria with a feeling of ease. Everything seemed so....good. Like everything was finally normal-or as normal as it could get when you're living in my world.
Nate and I found our table that already held Reese and the future love birds. They looked content talking about god only knows what. Reese on the other hand, looked bored out of his mind.
"Why the long face former chub wonder?" I asked when I sat next to him. He glared at me when I called him fat again-but in my defense I did say former. So he should feel flattered not offended.
"You guys are pairing off like an animal planet documentary." he pouted.
"What are you talking about?" Nate asked swiping my apple and taking a big chunk. I punched his shoulder but knew my efforts were lost when he started laughing instead of crying.
Stupid weak girly muscles.
"That right there!" Reese cried out. "You two flirt non-stop and are always together now. Those two are always in their little bubble. The sexual tension is always high and I'm just here. Poor litle Reese is as single as a pringle." he pouted.
"Pringles actually come in a stack of a hundred." Nate pointed out.
"And what are you talking about? Nate and I have nothing going on." I emphasized. "Laurel and Hans-yeah totally. There's a lot of sexual tension there."
"Hey we're right here!" Hans cried out. They both shifted away from each other and blushed.
"You're all delusional. I predict by the end of the year Nate and Matey will be together. Then Hans and Big Red-"
"It's Laurel." Hans and I corrected him.
"Laurel and Hans will be together too," Reese pouted, "and I'll be single. Maybe I can join the bachelor." he mused aloud.
"The bachelor's are usually rich. Last time I checked, you only had fifty bucks and a parking ticket to your name." Nate scoffed.
"I'm beautiful, doesn't that count for something?"
"Stop complimenting yourself. Other people are supposed to do that. When you do it, it sounds arrogant." I rolled my eyes.
"None of my friends compliment me because they're too busy flirting with each other." Reese whined.
"For the last time, Nate and I have nothing going on." I said slowly, so even he could comprehend.
"Don't we?" Nate raised his eyebrow and pulled me into his arm. I growled and pinched his arm until he yelped.
"No."
"You have yet to fall for my charm." Nate sighed wistfully.
"There is no charm." I pointed out. "Reese why don't you ask a nice girl out?" Everyone at our table laughed, even Laurel.
Did I say something funny?
"Reese doesn't ask girls out." Hans answered me.
"What?"
"Cupcake, your step brother is a man whore. He doesn't ask girls out much less nice girls. He and Nate are the biggest players in town. Before you, they were all over the map." Hans explained.
"I knew they were flirty." I turned to the boys in question. They looked surprisingly ashamed of what Hans had said, "You two really slept around?"
"I wouldn't exactly say we slept more like did our business and left...." Reese shrugged. Nate remained silent and went back to eating, refusing to meet my gaze.
