Nate's POV
"It's about damn time!" Reese exclaimed after I explained my big romantic gesture for Matey. "No offense dude, but I thought I was going to have to kick your ass for taking so long." He chuckled.
I narrowed my eyes at him and scoffed, "Yeah right, like you could honestly take me on."
"Dude I've kicked your ass before." He retorted. "Remember when I went to your house and kicked your ass. I would have finished you off for good if Matey wouldn't have stopped me."
"I seem to recall, I was kicking your ass as well." I raised my eyebrow.
"Oh yeah?" Reese stood up and towered over me. "Let's refresh your memory." He challenged me. I stood up and glared at him.
"Bring it on," I paused and gave his gut a little pat, "just promise you won't try to eat me, okay big boy?" I teased him.
"That's not funny!" Reese cried out shoving me before plopping down my couch. "You know I have self esteem issues now." He grumbled, grabbing a bag of potato chips and stuffing his face.
I sighed and snatched the bag out of his hands. "Sorry." I apologized. I knew how sensitive Reese has gotten with the fat jokes. We should really all lighten up on him. "So, do you want to help me with Matey?" I asked.
Reese's face lit up like a Christmas tree, "Are you kidding me? Nate, this is what we've all been waiting for, of course i'm helping man." He laughed, making a move to pat my back only to grab at the chips again.
I smiled to myself and began to make a list of everything I needed. With any other girl, a date would be simple and cheap. A movie, a small dinner at Arby's or something, and if I was lucky....well never mind.
But with Matey, it was different. A good kind of different. She deserved more than a movie, a cheap dinner, and my tongue down her throat. I needed to prove to her that it's her I want. She deserved a night she would never forget.
Matey deserved the world, and if I could give her that, I would. But I can't afford all those taxes, so I hope she'd settle for just being my world.
Wait a minute. That's a good pick up line. I need to use that on our date!
"Uh...Nate?" Reese furrowed his brows, waving his hand in my face. "Dude are you okay? You've got that lost look on your face. You look like Matey."
"Huh?" I frowned.
"Yep that right there!" Reese snapped his fingers, "The whole 'deer caught in headlights' look. That's the exact one she has. Man you guys are so meant to be, it's disgusting."
I laughed and grabbed my car keys. "Lets go Palmer, we have a lot of work to do before this weekend."
***
It was the night before the big day. Matey and I hadn't really talked much because we were all pretty much banned from our social lives for two weeks. But I had manage to send a couple texts to her about our date. She was reluctant about agreeing but I broke her down enough to get a yes.
Everything was ready to go for tomorrow, but I still needed to do something.
I knocked on her door and waited patiently for her to answer. It was probably crazy to see her the night before my date with Matey, but something inside of me told me to come here. To see her and...I don't know, just to see her.
Finally she opened her door and smiled when she glanced up at me. "Nate, this is a surprise." Darcy smiled, opening the door wider and gesturing for me to come in. I smiled and shuffled in, closing the door behind me.
