"What?" I almost yelled over the phone, trying to keep my cool for my sister's sake.
Wes's voice replied happily, "Hey so I wanted to find a parking spot and instead I found this dope Chinese place! Open the door I'm right down...".
Well okay, I might have misjudged him... again and I might have overreacted. Again. I buzzed the downstairs door open and then ran to my own to open it up. Alright, I might like this kid a little more than I was supposed to. Jess's face lightened up when she saw Wes go through the door.
"Okay", he was saying as he walked through the door, "I brought some weirdass stuff to eat... but I bet it tastes gooood!". We both laughed at his comment cause no one says it better than Wes.
The afternoon went by pretty quickly with Chinese food and two movies I downloaded on my laptop. I kept trying to ask Wes to leave, because I thought it'd be better if I had some time with my sister, and besides I didn't want him spending the night at my place and give the wrong impressions to his brothers. But seeing the way he made my sister laugh, I couldn't bring my heart to it and honestly right now, I couldn't care less about what his brothers would say right now. It was getting late and my eyes were feeling heavy, and seeing that my sister had already fallen asleep, I dropped my head on his shoulder and quickly fell asleep.
I felt his kiss on my forehead a while later so I assumed it was morning. Opening my eyes, I saw him walk away from the bed. I looked out the window but it was still pitch black outside. I remained in silence waiting to hear the door open and him to creep outside and go home, but instead, a few minutes later I heard the balcony door open and then felt my sister jump up and out of the bed. Through the thick darkness I could only see his figure as he stepped outside, and then my sister's thin silhouette as she followed behind him. I closed my eyes, trying to fall back to sleep, knowing it would be okay for them to talk for a while, but curiosity got the best of me. From where I was, I could only hear faint whispers, so I slithered out of the bed as noiselessly as possible and hid behind the small table, sticking my head towards the balcony door. The whispers now formed words and sentences, and before I even had time to realize it, I was eavesdropping on their conversation.
"But now it doesn't really matter cause I guess a long time has passed and I'm supposed to be fine...", my sister's voice sounded broken as I leaned in to hear what they were talking about.
I hadn't heard the beginning of the conversation, but I could immediately guess what they had been talking about. Wes was holding a drink from my fridge and sipped on it quietly, focused on her. She didn't seem bothered by the fact that he didn't talk much and she continued talking, smiling and laughing occasionally.
"You probably think I'm crazy right?", she looked down on him, he shook his head while taking a deep gulp of drink, "haha yes you do! Admit it!", she joked, but her smile was turned into a frown ridiculously fast.
Wes noticed and put the can down on the table. I could see his mouth open, I could see him getting ready to speak but he was constantly hesitating. What could he say? His life was perfect...until he met me... and now listening to my sister's confessions would probably drive him even farther away from what we almost had.
"Let's sneak out", he blurted out. In unison, my sister's and my eyes widened as we both stared at Wes with question.
She half-smiled still confused and searched his eyes, "Go where? Do what?".
Pushing his chair back, he grabbed his snapback and twisted it with his fingers, giving my sister a wide devilish smile."Let's sneak out. Let's just go out dude! Let's go to the beach! It will make you feel better I promise!". Wes's face filled with moonlight as he leaned forward with hope. His lips formed a 'please' and he got up, holding his hands out to my sister. She quickly waved her hand in the air and shook her head nervously.
