I couldn't do otherwise but run to hug him immediately. God knows, I had missed him so much and even though I knew Jake wouldn't be happy about seeing this so unexpectedly and without an explanation, I couldn't resist. He was exactly what I needed to boost my confidence for tomorrow. He was exactly what I needed- period. Suddenly Jake's attempt to kiss me seemed ridiculous. We were just friends now, our love relationship remained strictly in the past because we both had lives to carry along. Besides, I was living somewhere else now, and I was in love with someone else as well.
"WHATT ARE YOU DOING HERE!?" I screamed in his ear not letting him go from my arms yet.
"Well you almost ruined the surprise dude when you called me like an hour ago!" Wes laughed back. "Of course I wanted you to call, stupid! I just didn't want you to while I was in the airport on my way here!" he continue.
Faith restored, flooded with relief- check. Of course. OF COURSE. It was Wesley we were talking about. The guy who always had a romantic comeback.
Looking at my mom with confusion, I addressed my next question to her. "How do you know...um... him? Why did..? When?" As I expected, my excitement took over my tongue and I couldn't manage to get once sentence out completed. Wesley was here! AND SO WAS JAKE! And this introduction wouldn't be fun.
With the corner of my eye I threw a look at Jake who was kicking the grass and had his head down shyly. Shit, way to thank him for all the help, Ray.
"Jake! This is Wes! Wes, this is Jake, my uh...friend." The words killed him. I saw it in his look and I saw it in his movement. I was too harsh, but we both knew the truth and had cleared it out since yesterday. That random moment a few minutes ago threw us both off, but Wes was here and things were to be set straight now.
"What up buddy!" Wes smiled openly towards him and was greeted by a cold 'hey' from Jake.
The sun was getting darker and in one corner, the sun was being absorbed by the horizon. Our garden, for the first time since I can remember, looked absolutely beautiful. And frankly, it looked so much better with Wesley in it. The ribbons and birthday decorations we had stapled and tied to the trees were blowing in the soft afternoon breeze, some chiming with the bells they contained. I looked at Wes's watch and it was already ten to five, so I decided now would be a good time to start getting ready for tonight's charity banquet. Just thinking about all the familiar faces I would meet there made my stomach upset and I unconsciously squeezed myself harder in Wes's arms.
"Jake," I almost whined, "can Wesley come tonight with us?" Well. Awkward.
"Sure, I don't see why not. I better be going. I'll pick you up in about an hour." His eyes drifted to my mom and then to me, stabbing me in every corner of my guilty face.
As he walked away, I nestled into Wesley's arms again and kissed him passionately.
"Ehem" my mom broke in," I'll just... be in the kitchen. Yeah. Alright then!"
We both broke out laughing as she tripped twice hopping towards the open door. Wesley played with my hair and kissed my neck complaining about how much he had missed me.
"Woah. We haven't kissed so much in all four days we've known each other, COMBINED" I teased about our time together once again. "Now.... tell me everything you little rascal!"
By the time all the explanations finished I was even more eager to pull a party for my sister. Turns out, she had invited Wes (because she was sure she was going to convince me to come back home for her birthday) to come as well and spend a couple of days with my family, if he wanted to know me better. And as always Wes jumped at the chance. I smiled to myself listening to the story as he fidgeted around with my night lamp and entwined my hair bands around his thumb. Completely ignorant of the time, I almost blacked out when I realized we only had twenty minutes until six. Which meant we both had to take a shower. And that gave me a wild idea. I pulled out a towel from my top drawer for Wes to use and snatched his open shirt as he was sitting on the bed, pulling it towards him and gave him a wink.
