Ikki could take the reptile and go straight to find Huan, but she didn't do that. She has received a message from her dad, they haven't found Huan, but they had other problem. Tenzin said that there was a massive hurricane blowing into the south and they needed every single airbender available to help evacuate people from the storm's path.
The young woman felt so angry, her love was in danger, but other people were in danger as well. As an Air Nomad she had to go and help her dad, but how could she? After all, she was a young woman in love and she'd do anything for her loved one.
Ikki sat down near the river and she used astral projection to go straight to Toph.
" Psst, Top, Lin! I've found Huan, but I need your help! "
Lin looked at the spot where Ikki's spirit was.
" Where is he?" the chief asked
" On a volcanic island from The Fire Nation, Sapphire is keeping him there, he cannot bend there because the volcano is active and near it is an angry spirit. We need to get there, I'd have been there right now, but dad needs me. "
" Don't worry kid, go help your dad to save those people. Me, Toph, Su, Kya, Lyun and Katara we'll go after him, the avatar and the airbenders are going with Tenzin. Stay safe kiddo, everything's gonna be alright. "
" Thank you, Cheif. "
Ikki's spirit disappeared and Lin found herself looking at nothing. The greatest earthbender was already going to inform the others, while Lin went to call Zaheer, he should know how they could take down Sapphire.
Ikki left the circus behind as she flew to her dad, they were meeting in the south of the desert, where the storm was.
The physical embodiment of the speed and freedom of the wind, the airbenders took off with Tenzin at the fore, manipulating the wind around them to both propel their bodies and clear the air before them of any clouds, dirt, or debris. Streaking through the sky like comets, they swiftly disappeared from view, even as the assigned earthbending teams departed for the desert.
Bataar Sr was worried. Katara had been stationary for nearly two hours, breathing deeply with a look of intense concentration on her face, only visible through the tiny slits between the slabs of water that formed her hut. Bataar Sr had heard the stories, of course - they all had. Stories about Katara, the helpless little girl who fought her fears and learnt waterbending from Pakku. The most grounded, strong, caring, stubborn member of Team Avatar - the Gaang, as Sokka had called them - was also the most spiritual? It was hard to believe. But as she watched Katara meditate, she realized that they had never sat down, never talked. Never had a real conversation. The thought had barely crossed his mind before Katara dropped her waterbent tent, cracking her knuckles and saying only two sentences.
"When Ikki gets back, send her to me. I have bad news."
It must have been a trick of the light, but Bataar Sr could have sworn that she saw tears in the corner of Katara's eye.
In her time of meditation, Katara saw a little vision about how the things could end and it wasn't a happy ending. The old master saw Huan dying because they couldn't save him, she saw Kya being hurt and Ikki getting lost. She couldn't let all of that happen, no! No one was messing with her family, no one! Not even a crazy lady, nah-nah!
Ikki was another hour before she returned for a breather, exhausted but empowered by youth and determination. She returned to Katara as directed, and had barely opened her mouth before the woman spoke.
" I've stayed here because I thought I can't fight anymore, but I was wrong. They'll need me so I'm gonna catch up, also, my dearie doesn't go back to the desert. No! I've...had a vision, if you're going back you're gonna get lost. "
