My Days With Alex

Surgery

A/N: First time writing a surgery scene so I hope ya like it. Sorry it took awhile to update because I was trying to make this a good chapter.

A couple of minutes later
The doctors and nurses was asking nicely that Alex let other people see her. Alex did with some forcement by Hope and Ashyln, her grandpa was the last to see her. The doctor came by checking on Tobin seeing if she was still stable from having surgery with her lungs. An orthopedic surgeon came into the room and looked at her grandpa and said, "sorry I was in surgery, and well I don't know if they told you, but we couldn't really check out her leg, and plus she had surgery on her lungs. They also wanted to check on her forehead and see if she had a lot brain damage." He nodded and let her do her thing she really couldn't do much since Tobin was in a minor coma, so she had to get nurses to take her to get x-rays.

A couple of hours later, the orthopedic came back and said, "I schedule her to have surgery later today. She has a broken bone in her left leg and torn muscles also. The other doctor will be with you soon." She walked away as her grandpa was sitting in the chair watching his granddaughter asleep and seeing the cast on her leg. As he sat there he knew that she had surgery for her lungs, but he didn't know anything about her brain.

The next doctor came in and said, "Mr. Heath, I have so bad news we scanned her x-rays again and your granddaughter has a fractured skull, and so we have to have surgery immediately before any fragments dig into her brain to cause bleeding in her brain. So we will get her ready in surgery in 30 minutes." He left, and her grandpa stood and walked out of the room and saw Alex sitting. He walked to her and said she's about to go back in surgery. They both walked in and saw nurses in the room. They saw her before she went to surgery because who knows how long surgery will go.

Alex's POV
I got really nervous I got asked nicely to let other people see her, but I just couldn't move until Hope, and Ashlyn forced me. I was in the waiting room, and I must of fell asleep a couple of minutes later I felt someone waking me up. I saw that the random guy was there I said, "is she fine and how long was I sleep?" I asked as he said, "she fine I believe and maybe hour." "I'm sorry I never got your name" I say to him as he smiled and said, "I'm River." "Hi River I'm Alex" I say as we had small talk until I saw her grandpa walking towards me I knew something was up.

He told me that Tobin was going into surgery because of skull fractures, I saw her again and broke down. They took her and then I realized I need to tell my mom where I am at but then my phone was dead. We walked back into the waiting for news about her and just was praying for the best right now.

Everybody was sitting in the waiting room just waiting for a intern or nurse to update them about Tobin. Each of them was confronting each other, but Alex was on a whole different planet. She was exhausted, her eye's red, she hasn't eaten much, and she won't even be by her friends only River.

In the surgery room, they had to cut a piece of Tobin's hair because it's in the way for them to work on her skull. As she was anesthesia for this surgery, as with the heart monitor, iv, oxygen mask, and other supplies. She laid on top of the surgical table. It was cold as the lights was focused on her and her brain.

The neurosurgeon cut open her skull where the main fracture was at. He was steady as he tried to fix the structure bone, as the interns was there to learn to they saw what he was doing. It took and patience because one wrong step could irrupt something in this process causing it to bleed out. He told one of the interned to tell the patient grandfather it's good, and we are fixing the problem in a steady pace.

She left the room and saw them, mostly of Tobin's friends was asleep. She saw her grandpa and walked to him and said, "it's good, and we are fixing the problem in a steady pace." He smiled and said "okay," she saw and usually girls who looks like a zombie. She walks to Alex and said, "ma'am she's fine okay, why not you sit and get some rest when you wake up, she will be her." Alex smiled and nodded as she moved to Cheney, Arod and Syd and closed her eyes.

The intern walked back into the surgical room and saw that the patient heart was going low, and she looked at the screen and saw that blood was coming out. The neurosurgeon yelled for help as she walked fast to assist him as grabbing that tool to suck out the blood. "She's crashing sir" some say, as they got the defibrillator ready for her.

They called the cardiologist to come down because of if her heart does fail, then he will be there. They were deciding if they would need the orthopedic surgeon, but they said no. The neurosurgeon final got control and was almost down and was about to close her up. One of the nurses saw a lot of bruising in her left leg and said, "sir the orthopedist should get in her now. I don't think her leg has much time." He got up and walked, saw it and said, "what are you waiting for call her."

A couple of minutes later, the orthopedic surgeon came in and said, "I'm ready." Will the neurosurgeon was finishing, the orthopedic saw the bruising and said, "be aware of blood comes out." She got the scalpel and cut her leg and then blood squirt out as the nurses grabbed a cloth to stop the blood. As the blood calmed down they knew that they should've done this surgery when she got her because Tobin had an infection in her leg.

The neurosurgeon was done and was asking to stay, but he knew he had to talk her family. He leaves as the interns and nurses would help Doctor Taylor as she was trying to work on her leg. Tobin's leg was broken so she had to get that worked on and her torn muscles, but before Doctor, Taylor could do anything she was cleaning up the infection. She looked at the intern and said, "the infection it started to grow, but we caught in time."

Doctor Taylor and other help her with Tobin's muscles before repairing her broken bone. As she finished up, she wanted to talk to her family, so she made an intern to close her up. She leaves the room and walks into the waiting room and sees Alex and Danny (grandpa) standing up.

"Hello Mr. Heath and Alex right, well all already know that her skull fracture was good it didn't hit any part of the brain. Her leg though it got worse we have to watch it now. I manage to get out the infection and fix her muscles and her broken bone" Doctor Taylor explains to both of them.

"Will she ever play soccer again? When will she wake up?" Alex asked

"I don't know it be hard to come back from this, but I think she can play again. Waking up is all on her" Doctor Taylor says before walking away.

Alex's POV
I'm happy that Tobin's brain isn't worse but her leg is broken, torn muscles and has a minor infection. I don't know I have to focus school tomorrow, but I can't even leave the hospital, even if I tried. I saw my dad, sisters and mom here to support me; I don't know if my mom was, but still they were here.

Tobin is back in her room, and I let others go before me. I walked in and saw a thin cast I guess so Doctor Taylor can easily look at the infection. I saw a bandage wrapped her head, the iv, heart monitor beeping and how Tobin was laying there with that oxygen over her mouth. I hate that she can't breath, and I can't help I don't know how bad her heart or lungs are but I just want her to breath on her own.

I sat next to her placed my warm hands on her cold ones, and I kissed it, so she knows I'm here. "Hey Toby, I hope you can hear me because I need you to know everything is going to be fine. I love you, and I ain't going anywhere we can make it though together." I say as I closed my eyes for a second.

"Alex..." I hear a mumble

"Tobin?" I say as I looked up and she was a wake and took off the oxygen mask.

She smiled, then her smile went down to a frown, Next hear beeping and beeping and I saw she was crashing and I ran outside "I need help! She woke up and now she's crashing!" I yell at the nurses as tears streaming down my face, they ran into the room and kicked me out.

I was in tears as I felt my dads hands taking me back to the waiting room. I stayed in my dads arms and not ready to lose her as my tears was falling and probably could make a puddle around me and my dad.

A/N: Thank you for reading and I hope this was good. Like I said this was a first surgery in my writings. I used Danny has her grandpa because thats my grandpa he passed away in 2009 and it's the only way I feel connected to him so I hope ya don't mind Tobin's grandpa name.
