Chapter 2

Sunday, May 19th

When Meryl got downstairs, she saw Maks standing where he was when she took Adalyn upstairs. He was staring off into space. She walks over to him and puts a hand on his arm.

"Maks?"

"She's... I'm..."

"You're her dad aren't you."

"I didn't know Meryl. I didn't know."

"I know baby. You would never walk away from your child."

"What do we do Mer?"

"Right now, you need to get yourself together. I need to get back up there before she freaks out. You can join us when you're ready. If you're not up there when she falls asleep, I'm guessing she will nap since she is so young and is having a stressful day, I'll come down so we can talk and figure things out. Ok?"

"Ok. Wait. Let me look in her suitcase for something to comfort her." Maks opens the first suitcase and it is full of clothes. He then opens the second and it is fill of toys and stuffed animals. He pulls out a pink teddy bear and hands it to Meryl. She picks up their drinks and heads upstairs into their room after giving him a kiss. In the room, Adalyn was watching the TV intently. Meryl put Adalyn's drink on the bedside table and climbed in next to her.

"We found this teddy bear in your bag. So you want to hold it?"

Adalyn nods and takes the bear from Meryl.

"Did you see us on the TV yet?"

"Yes."

"Oh good. Did we dance yet?"

Adalyn shakes her head no.

Well let's keep watching, Maks and I should dance soon."

Adalyn moves closer to Meryl and lays down. Meryl starts rubbing her head just like she does to makes and he does for her. Adalyn fell asleep after 5 minutes. Meryl waited a few minutes to make sure she was asleep before going downstairs. She funds Maks sitting at their table looking at the letter. She went up behind him and wraps her arms around his neck.

"Can I read it?"

"Yea." Maks hands Meryl the letter. She takes it over to the couch and sits down and begins reading the letter.

Maks,

This is Adalyn. She is 3 years old and she is your daughter. I know she is yours because I wasn't with anyone after that one night with you. I'm sorry I kept her from you but I didn't want to weigh you down. You don't really even know me so I decided not to tell you.

I am not in the position to take care of Adalyn anymore. I just can't give her the attention she needs. I lover her too much to have her suffer.

As you can see, I packed two suitcases for her. One is clothes. Some of it fits but I truly don't know how much. The other has some of her toys and stuffed animals that she loves.

You'll find an envelope in the front pocket of the suitcase with clothes. It has her birth certificate and other important documents. Once again, I'm sorry for not telling you and dumping her on you like this out of nowhere but I had no other options. Please tell her I lover her. I know you'll take great care of her.
