Chapter 34

Friday, January 16th

Meryl has just picked up Adalyn from school. She has both girls with her and they are going to their favorite bakery. Maks has a meeting today with his manager so she has both girls

"Adalyn, do you know what tomorrow is?"

"Da. It's Papa's birthday."

"Right. Do you know what we are going to do to celebrate?"

"No."

"We are having a surprise party. He doesn't know about it."

"It's a secret?"

"Yes. Can you keep the secret?"

"Of course!"

"Thank you. I'll tell you what we are going to do. We are going to a dinner, just the four of us. Then after dinner, we'll come home and they'll be a bunch of people at our house for some dessert and fun times."

"Who will be there?"

"Tetya Jenna, Dyadya Val, Mrs. Sharna, Mr. Paul, Mr. Artem, Miss. Emma, Mrs. Kym, and Mr. Robert."

"That's a lot of people. Papa will love it."

"I hope so milaya devushka. Ok we are here at the bakery. We are going to order the desserts for tomorrow. Maybe we'll even get a treat today."

"Yay!" Adalyn unbuckles and waits while Meryl gets Brynlee's car seat out of the car and then climbs out herself. She takes Meryl's hand and they walk in together.

"Hello. Welcome. Can I help you?"

"Hi. Yes. We are looking to order some desserts for a party for tomorrow."

"Oh great! What kind of party are you having?"

"It's my husband's birthday tomorrow so we are having a party."

"How wonderful!"

"It's a surprise party" Adalyn cuts in saying.

"Oh even better! What kinds of desserts are you looking to get?"

"Well we'll need a cake. Nothing fancy just a simple cake."

"What flavor do you want?"

"Could we do half vanilla, half chocolate?"

"Yes of course. How about icing?"

"Butter cream for sure. That's his favorite."

"This is our cake design book. How about you take a look and pick out a design."

"Oh thank you. Adalyn, help me pick please."

Adalyn climbs onto Meryl's lap and they look through together. They chose the cake with blue borders and in the center of the cake, it will say 'Happy Birthday Maks.'

"Is there any other desserts you would like?"

"You guys do cannoli's right?"

"Yes we do."

"We'll take some of those."

"What about cookies Mama?"

"I think we'll make those at home. Then Papa will think we are going to have those for dessert after dinner.

"Good idea" the employee says with a smile.

"My brother and sister in law are going to be picking up the cake and cannoli's."

"Ok, no problem. What are their names so I can put them on the papers?"

"Val and Jenna Chmerkovskiy."
