Chapter 25

Saturday, October 25th + Friday October 31st

"Adalyn, what do you want to be for Halloween?" Meryl asks while they are eating breakfast the Saturday before Halloween. Meryl is 8 months pregnant and her belly is much bigger now.

"A ballerina."

"But you are a ballerina everyday. Don't you want to be something else?"

"No."

"Why do you want to be a ballerina?"

"Because they wear tutus."

"Adalyn, milaya devushka, I can make a tutu for any costume. How about we look and see what else you might want to be when you finish your breakfast."

"I am done Mama. I'm full."

"Ok. Meet me at the couch."

They sit down on the couch and look through Pinterest together.

"Oh look. How about Minnie Mouse?" Meryl asks excitedly looking at Adalyn.

"No. I'm always Minnie. I want to be something different."
Hmm, ok. Let's keep looking then."

"Wait, what's that Mama?" She is pointing to a girl with a blue and green tutu with peacock feathers added on.

"Oh, she is a peacock."

"What is a peacock?"

"It is a bird. I'll show you a real picture." Meryl looks up pictures of peacocks on Google. Adalyn loves them.

"That's what I want to be Mama."

"You want to be a peacock?"

"Da Mama."

"Ok. Well then I'll make you a peacock costume."

"Spasibo Mama."

"Pozhaluysta. Do you want to go to the store to pick up the supplies with me?"

"Ok! Let's go."

"Go potty first."

They go to a local craft store to get the supplies. Meryl has a list in her purse. Adalyn is holding her hand walking into the shop. Meryl grabs a cart and Adalyn walks along side Meryl and the cart.

"Hi. Can I help you find anything?"

"Hi. Yes, that would be great. I have a list of things I need to make her costume. I have never been here so I have no clue where anything is." She pulls out her list and shows it to the employee.

"Ok. Come with me. I'll help you find everything you need. May I ask what costume you are making?"

"Adalyn, can you tell her what you are going to be for Halloween?"

"A peacock" she says with a smile.

"Oh that's adorable. Here is the tulle. What colors do you need?"

"We need light blue, dark blue, lime-ish green, purple, and a little black."

They pick out the colors they believe match the best. Adalyn even helps a little. She finds some tulle that is glittery and adds it into the mix.

"What's next?"

"The elastic for the waist band." Meryl says.

The employee shows them to the elastic. They grab white elastic. They then pick up a sewing kit so she can hand sew the elastic together. Then they go to the felt section. Meryl is going to make the feathers herself. They pick up brown, green, dark blue, and light blue felt. They grab a gold fabric marker to draw the lines on the brown part of the feathers.
