The end of February was nearing. At the end of breakfast, the windows of the Great Hall opened and in flew dozens of owls delivering mail to their owners. Claire gracefully swooped down and landed between the plates of toast and bacon, dropping a letter on my plate. After eating a bit of my crust that I gave her, she set off again out the window. "It's from my mother," I informed Draco, who was watching me open the rolled up parchment. Setting down my glass, I read the letter in my head.
Dear Katie,
I hope everything is going great and that all is well. How are your classes? Do you have good grades? Of course you do, you've always excelled in school. John and I have been busy getting the baby's room ready. We painted it yellow for now since we decided to wait to find out the gender until the baby is born. My due date is March 28th which is right around Easter. John and I were thinking that it would be nice for you to come visit during your Easter holiday break. Ask your father about it and get back to me as soon as you can. We'd love to see you.
With love,
Mom
"The baby is due around Easter. She wants me to come visit for Easter break so I can meet my little brother or sister," I told Draco.
"That's great!" Draco cheered.
"I need to ask Dad about this." I looked up at the staff table and noticed that Dad had already left the Great Hall. "I'll see you in DADA. I'm going to talk to him before class." I rushed out of the room and up the stairs to find Dad in his classroom, preparing for class. "Hey Dad!"
"Good morning, Sweetheart. You're early to class," Dad replied.
"Yeah, actually I wanted to talk to you. I just received a letter from Mom. She wants me to come stay with her over Easter break. The baby is due a couple days before Easter," I told him.
"Well that sounds like a great idea. You can write back that you'll be there. I can apparate you there when break starts so it won't take as long to travel."
I smiled. "Thank you." I stepped forward and hugged him. Other students began to slip into the room for class so I sat down at my desk. Taking out a piece of parchment, I wrote a quick letter back to my mom before getting my supplies out for class.
Draco sat down next to me. "Did you talk to him?"
"Yes. He's going to apparate me to my mother's place the first day of break."
"Are you going to be gone the whole break?" I nodded and Draco let out a sigh. "I'm going to miss you."
"Then come with me."
"Really?"
"Yeah, I mean I want you to meet my new little sibling when he or she's born, and it would be nice for you to get to know my mom and step-dad better."
"What about the task?" Draco asked, lowering his voice.
"Well you have a little over a month before break. You can work on it extra before the break to make up for the time spent away from it."
"Everybody quiet down. Class has now begun." Draco and I ceased our conversation and began to listen to Dad teach about inferi. We took notes and looked at pictures of the tortured creatures. By the end of class, all I could think about was what Draco's answer would be about Easter break.
We began to head down to lunch when Draco took my hand. I looked down at it and smiled. He stopped me and kissed me softly. "What was that for?" I asked, grinning.
"Alright," he replied. I gave him a questioning look. "I'll go with you to your mother's over break."
"Oh!" I wrapped my arms around his neck and kissed him again. "Thank you!" Draco hugged me tightly. "I love you."
