***Author's note: ok, this is another one of those chapters where the music is muggle music and music that didn't even exist in the muggle world during this time era, it's fanfic so just go with it :) ***
Classes had ended for the term and it was the day before those who were going home for Christmas departed from Hogwarts. This meant that it was also the day of the parties that the Headmaster had promised us. There was a sense of excitement in the air. At lunch there wasn't a soul who wasn't discussing the event. The professors handed out sheets of parchment that said where each year was to go for the party.
Rooms for Party
Year Room
1st years----------------Charms classroom
2nd years----------------TBD
3rd years----------------Divination classroom
4th years----------------DADA classroom
5th years----------------Potions classroom
6th years----------------Transfiguration classroom
7th years----------------Great Hall
"Attention please." Dumbledore began once everyone had received a parchment, "You might have noticed that second years' room says 'TBD' or 'to be determined'. We are still searching for where to host your party. You'll be told at dinner the location of the event. Have a good day."
At dinner he announced that we'd have our party in a classroom on the second floor that usually isn't used. It was decorated for the party with red and green streamers and table cloths. Bowls of chips and candy were set up on the table as well as glasses of punch.
Music was playing and people were standing around talking. This is boring, I thought. I looked around and saw a microphone plugged into an amp. Walking over to it, I grabbed it and said, "OK guys, this is boring. Don't deny it. Someone must have an idea of what to do." Nobody answered. "What about karaoke? Wait I know. We can have a karaoke contest! Hermione, do you have a quill and parchment?" She handed them to me. "Thanks." I created a bracket and announced, "OK we need eight people. I'll do it. How about you, Maddie?"
"Sure!" She came over and stood next to me.
"Anyone else who wants to participate come on up," I encouraged. Hannah Abbott of Hufflepuff and Lavender Brown from Gryffindor came up. "Great!" I exclaimed as I scribbled down their names on the bracket. "Let's have the last four be boys." Neville and Seamus came up. "Two more now. Draco, come up here." He shook his head.
"I'll come up," Ron volunteered, making his way to the front.
"See Draco, even Ron came up." I put on a pouty face.
Draco rolled his eyes before finally giving in. "Oh alright. For you."
"Yay! OK, so I think we should start at the top match and go down. Oh and just for fun I think both singers should have to sing a song by the same artist. Sound good?" There were murmurs of approval in the crowd. "Maddie and I will go first. Maddie, you start. Pick a song." She walked to the front of the area that sorta became our stage and took the mic.
"I'll sing 'I Kissed a Girl' by Katy Perry." The music started and she sang great.
Then came my turn. "Let's see. Katy Perry. Hmmm. So many great songs. I guess I'll sing 'Firework'." After the song came to an end, I asked, "OK who wants Maddie in the next round?" Around a third clapped for her. "Who wants me to go to round two?" The response was much louder. "OK, great job Maddie! You were amazing!" I hugged her and sent her to go stand in the crowd. "Next is Hannah and Lavender."
