It was a week before Christmas and I still didn't have a date to the Yule Ball. A few people asked me, but I said no. I still had hope that Draco would ask me because he hasn't asked anyone either. Blaise ended up asking Daphne Greengrass. He made sure she knew they were only going to the Yule Ball together, not dating.
I still have not received a reply from mystery writer since I gave him a hint for who I fancy. Maybe he won't ever reply. Looking at the clock on my bedside table, I saw it was 3:45. Draco wanted to meet me by the tree near the lake at four so I decided to head there now.
As I passed through the Entrance Hall, I ran into George, who had just come down the stairs.
"Well hello Kate! Fancy running into you here!" He greeted with a smile.
I laughed, "It isn't that unexpected, I mean it is the entrance hall, after all."
"Right," he chuckled, running a hand through his flaming hair. "So listen, Kate. I was wondering-" He stopped to cough. "Well, I wanted to know if-"
The clock chimed four o'clock and I interrupted him, "Oh crap! Sorry George! Draco wanted me to meet him by the lake at four and now I'm running late. But we can talk later, okay?"
"Oh, uh, alright then-"
"Thanks! I really gotta go! See ya later!"
Draco's POV:
I paced back and forth by the tree, looking at my watch every few seconds. It was a couple minutes before four. Katie would be here soon. A million questions swam through my mind.
What if she says no? What if she says no and our friendship is never the same again? What if she does fancy Blaise?
I noticed her a little ways away and stopped pacing to run my fingers through my hair. It suddenly seemed messy.
Katie's POV:
"Hey," I smiled as I walked up to Draco. He seemed nervous. "So what did you want to meet me down here for? Was it just to hang out before dinner?"
"Uh, no actually. Um, Katie?" He looked me in the eyes briefly before looking at his feet.
"Yes?"
Draco's POV:
Come on man. Find some courage. It's now or never. "Will you go to the ball with me?"
"As in a date?" She asked. I could sense some excitement in her voice that gave me some confidence.
"Yes. As in being our first. As in us officially being boyfriend and girlfriend when we get there," I explained, looking into her eyes.
Katie's POV:
The moment, which I'd been waiting for for so long, was happening. I nodded my head before crying out, "Yes!" and hugging him. "I'm gonna go tell Maddie! I'll see you later." I hesitated, but then kissed him on the cheek before running back to the castle.
Draco's POV:
I pressed my hand to the spot on my cheek that Katie had kissed and watched as she ran off to tell Maddie the news.
I did it. I asked her to be my date, and I didn't make a fool out of myself. AND she kissed me! It was only on the cheek, but still!
"YES!" I shouted excitedly, throwing my hands up in the air. "Yes!"
Katie's POV:
With the help of George, I was able to find Maddie with Fred in the Gryffindor common room, cuddling on the couch. "Maddie, Maddie, Maddie!" I screamed.
