The following Friday dawned bright and sunny. As soon as I got to my seat at the Slytherin table, I began to eat my bacon. Maddie watched me intently. This led me to think that something was up, but I shrugged it off and reached for my pumpkin juice. That must have been what she was waiting for. After taking a sip, my hair began to stand on end. Maddie, assumedly with the aid of Fred and George, had slipped a hair raising potion into my drink.
I ran off out of the room as quickly as I could and made my way to the hospital wing. It took a long time for Madame Pomfrey to get my hair back to normal. The potion must of been a very strong one. Arriving in potions class late, Father already knew my reason and just simply asked, "Please take a seat and copy the notes off the board. I am already aware of your reasoning as to why you are late." I gave a curt nod and slid into my seat next to Draco.
Fortunately, I am a quick writer so I managed to write down everything I needed by the end of class. On the way to Charms class Maddie asked, "Are you mad at me?"
"Mad? Of course she's mad! Katie's just like me. We both don't like it when people mess with our hair." Draco laughed.
"Draco, I can handle this," I told him before turning to face Maddie, "What he said." Draco snickered.
"Hey, you should've been expecting something. I mean, I've been hanging out with Fred and George. What did you think was going to happen? Besides it was George's idea." We had reached the charms classroom, and the conversation had to come to an end before I could respond.
"Hello class," Professor Flitwick squeaked. "Today we are going to be practicing cheering charms." Professor Flitwick continued on to tell us about the cheering charm and how to conjure it. "Now I want you to partner up with someone other than your usual partner. You'll take turns practicing on each other." Maddie grabbed my arm before I could even think of finding another partner.
"I'm sorry about the whole hair prank thing. Would it help if you knew that Snape punished us? He took five points from Slytherin and ten from Gryffindor."
I sighed, "Fine."
"Yay!" She cheered. "Want to make tomorrow a girls' day?"
"Okay."
"Great! Now let's get you to cheer up." By the end of class both of us were successful in performing the cheering charm.
The next day, besides being mine and Maddie's girls' day, was Halloween. At breakfast I made sure to carefully inspect my food and pumpkin juice before devouring them. "We didn't do anything to your food today," Maddie told me.
"Or did you and you're trying to trick me?"
"No we didn't."
"You better not of. I know we are going to hang out today, but want to come with me to yell at George for coming up with the idea of pranking me?" She nodded. Ten minutes later, I saw Fred and George get up to leave. "They're leaving. Let's go." I followed the twins up the stairs and around a corner before yelling out, "George Weasley!"
"Hey Kate!" He greeted happily when he turned around and saw me.
"Don't 'hey Kate' me! How dare you prank me? I ought to hex you."
"Ha! I'd like to see you try. You can't hex me." I smacked him in the arm.
"Hey come on Kate, play nice now," Fred joked.
"Shut up! You were part of it too. I'm just mad at George because he came up with the idea."
"It was pretty funny. You didn't react the way we thought you would, but funny nonetheless," George admitted.
