About halfway to the Great Hall, Draco stopped us and pushed me against the wall, kissing me gently. When our lips parted, he rested his forehead against mine and breathed, "I've missed being able to do that."
Blushing, I chuckled and looked down before saying, "Come on, let's get down to breakfast. I'm starving."
When we arrived in the Great Hall, we headed to our usual spot at the Slytherin table. "Well look who it is!" Blaise cheered as we approached him and Maddie. "Good to see you up and moving around again, mate." He reached across the table and gave Draco a pat on the shoulder.
Maddie smiled and asked, "Hey Draco, how are you feeling?"
"Better than I have been, but still tired," Draco answered honestly. Maddie nodded in understanding before turning back to her food. We all did the same.
After breakfast, the four of us headed back to the common room. We were only just passing through the entrance hall, however, when Draco started to head towards the staircase leading upwards instead of the one leading down to our common room.
"Hey Maddie and Blaise, you two head down. We'll catch up in a little bit." They obliged and I hurried to catch up with Draco. "Draco, where do you think you're going?" I asked.
"I think you already know the answer to that," he answered.
"Draco, you and I both promised Madame Pomfrey that you'd take it easy and rest up. You can go up there tomorrow, but for today you just need to focus on regaining your strength."
"But-"
"No excuses. Now come on, let's just go lie down in the common room." I took his hand and he reluctantly allowed me to lead him downstairs.
When we got to the common room, Maddie and Blaise were sitting on the couch, waiting for us to join them. Draco and I sat down on the couch opposite of them. Draco laid down and placed his head in my lap. I lightly stroked his hair and told him that he could sleep if he wanted to. Maddie, Blaise, and I promised to keep the noise level down for him. Soon enough, he did just that. Draco slept through most of the morning and before we knew it, it was time to head to lunch.
The entire day was spent resting in the common room. It was not unlike the time I had spent in the past week in the hospital wing. The couch was much more comfortable for both of us though.
The next day was a Sunday, so Draco spent the entire day getting back to work on the cabinet. With the end of the year approaching quickly, I never complained anymore about him spending all of his time with the cabinet. Him and I both knew what was at stake if he failed. There were times when I accompanied him to the Room of Requirement, but I worried that me being there distracted him from his task, so I typically spent my time alone or with Maddie and Blaise.
It was a Thursday afternoon the first week of June. Actually, it was Draco's 17th birthday. As much as I wanted to celebrate his birthday with him after lunch (we had no afternoon classes), I knew he needed to work on the cabinet so I went up to the astronomy tower to be alone with my thoughts. I stood at the railing, looking down at the grounds and listening to the birds chirp. There was a light, cool breeze that prevented the weather from being too hot.
I heard footsteps and turned my head to look towards the stairs. Seeing that it was only Draco, I went back to staring out at the view. He silently approached me and slipped his arms around me, hugging me from behind and resting his chin on my shoulder.
"It's fixed," he whispered softly in my ear.
I gasped and spun around quickly to face him. "You're serious?" He nodded, his face breaking out into a big grin. "Oh my god! Yes!" I pulled his head down to mine and kissed him. When I broke the kiss, I pulled him into a hug and exclaimed, "It's fixed! You did it! It's finally fixed!"
