Chapter 3

I was walking through the woods alone once again. This time however, it was very dark outside and I could hardly see anything.

After pointlessly walking around in circles for a while I knew I was lost.

Lost in the dark woods and alone.

I started panicking and my heart was racing when I heard a loud crack.

I jumped and spun around, afraid of what was behind me.

Two big blue eyes were staring back at me. They belonged to some kind a big animal. And when I say big, it appeared to be at least 3 feet taller than my 5'7" frame.

I couldn't tell what it was, I only saw a tall figure that was darker that the night.

I tried to scream, but nothing came out. I quickly started running through the woods, swerving in and out of trees, trying to get away from what was now chasing me.

I knew I was running really slow for some reason, slower than usual.

Then I tripped on something and fell to the ground.

I let out a gasp as I heard something in my arm crack and start throbbing.

That's when something grabbed me.

I started kicking and screaming with all my might to some how get away.

"-Hay, Hayden, Hayden!"

I quickly opened my eyes and saw my mom shaking me awake.

I sat up in bed feeling suddenly alert.

"What happened?" I asked alarmed.

"Honey you were having a bad dream" my mom said calmly, looking at me with a confused expression.

"Huh?" I looked around my room realizing that I had just woke up.

That dream had been so real, I thought to myself. I checked my arm to see that it was fine and not hurting at all.

"Well hon, take a quick shower and get ready. We are going out to the lake today to the public Fourth of July celebration."

It was already the Fourth of July? That came quick.

"Okay" I told my mom.

When she left I got up to look in the mirror.

I looked pretty frightening to tell the truth.

My long dirty-blonde hair was sticking up in random spots and some of it was matted to my face from sweating. Probably from my nightmare.

My blue eyes looked tired from the lack of sleep I had gotten.

I sighed, knowing the only solution was to take a nice long shower.

After getting out of the shower that I seemed to take too long in, according to my mom, I got dressed in some jean shorts and a blue tang top that made my eyes stand out.

I then let my hair air dry while eating breakfast and decided to leave my natural wavy strands down for the day.

We arrived at the celebration at the lake, around noon.

It was a nice day out and the water looked very refreshing. However when we pulled in my nerves slightly picked up.

It wasn't that I hated being around so many people, it was just that I wasn't that comfortable with it. I had always been shy and quiet, at least around strangers, which were spread out everywhere chatting and drinking and enjoying the cool breeze that would pick up every once in a while.
