Chapter 23
I shot up gasping for air. My clothes were sticking to my body since I was covered in sweat. I was breathing hard and the dang pain in my chest- which I was beginning to think was the norm now- was pulsing.
I shut my eyes tight at the daylight that was now seeping through my curtains, and laid back down. My heart was still pounding and I tried taking deep breaths to calm down.
The nightmare I had had was horrible, but now I couldn't remember any of it.
I jumped at the sounds of footsteps coming towards my door.
I shut my eyes again and acted like I was sleeping, not wanting to be bothered.
My door opened and someone walked in and sat down on the edge of my bed.
"Honey?" My mom ran her hand over my sweaty forehead.
I slowly opened my eyes, wondering why she was waking me. "Hmm?" I mumbled.
"Who's Carter?"
My eyes got wide and I sat up. "What?!"
"Carter. You were just saying it over and over."
I didn't know what to say. Had I really been saying his name? And loud enough for my mom I hear? Great.
"You know you can tell me anything." She said after I was quiet.
Yeah right, I thought. Well, I was kidnapped by some werewolves. One is supposedly my mate, but he didn't want me so he kicked me out. What can ya do? I sounded crazy.
"I know mom."
"You feel hot. You might be sick." Her forehead creased with worry.
"Yeah I do feel kinda sick." I admitted. Or I'm just completely going crazy.
My mom left and came back to take my temp.
"Your burning up. Maybe we should take you to the doctors." My mom looked at her watch. "I can probably take an hour off of work this morning..."
"No that's okay mom. I think I just need to rest for a while." I looked at the clock. It was almost 7.
My mom seemed to be thinking it over for a minute and then she said, "Okay. But call me if you feel any worse Hayden."
"Okay." I replied, thinking how I could possibly feel worse.
My head was pounding and my stomach killed. It felt like I was getting punched right in the gut. Over and over again.
My mom gave me some tylenol and left quickly for work. Soon my dad also left, leaving me alone in the house.
I tried sleeping on and off for the next couple hours.
When I began to get bored I reached over to my nightstand and grabbed my laptop that was charging.
I logged on to my social networking page and noticed I had 14 new messages.
They were mostly all from friends. Asking where I was, what I was doing. Later they were 'good luck!' 'we'll miss you!' and 'how could you go to CA!'
"Ugh!" I shut my laptop and put my head in my hands.
I didn't feel like facing my friends about anything. At least not now.
I sat staring at my closed laptop and let my thoughts wander for one of the first times since I had gotten back.
I then opened my laptop again and typed in one word in the search engine.
Werewolves.
Things started popping up left and right. Most were about the fictional werewolf- well at least they didn't look like Carter...
