Chapter 5

The ride home from the party was filled with silence, which led me to think over what had happened today.

My hand unintentionally flew to my cheek where I could still feel the tingles where Carter had kissed.

He had done it quick, before I could react to it, but now my face heated up from remembering as a smile lingered on my features.

Though I hadn't forgave him, it was hard not to.

Even though I was glad that I had met Carter and Cole, I still couldn't figure out all of their short answers on my questions about them. Everything else had gotten a full explanation and I couldnt help but think back to Carter's words on how I 'don't know anything about them'. For all I knew, they could be drug dealers or whatever. That might explain why they were asking me hundreds of questions. And I was dumb enough to answer. But then again, I over think everything.

As I followed my parents through the door of our cabin, I couldn't help but look into the woods when I remembered what I had saw the night before.

Great, now I had that in my head. Right before I went to sleep.

I woke up the next day with silence throughout the house. I checked the time to see I had actually slept in until 10 and got up, wondering why my mom hadn't made me get up earlier.

I found a note on the counter saying that my mom and dad went for an early hike and that they'd be back soon.

I didn't feel like actually cooking anything for breakfast, so I settled on pop tarts.

I took a nice long shower since my parents weren't here and then got dressed and pulled my hair up into a pony tail out of my face.

Deciding to take a walk on the trail I headed out.

I had been thinking over what I saw two nights ago and even though those two eyes were still visible in my mind, I couldn't help but question their appearance. And since it was light out I wouldn't be that afraid anyways. I guess I wanted to know that I hadn't imagined it, even though I was pretty sure I hadn't.

Walking through the trails was relaxing. I hadn't seen anything so far but I took Maggie with me just in case. Though I didn't know if she'd be any help since she just whimpered away last time.

As I traveled down the long narrow dirt path, needing to squeeze through in some places due to the small width, I took in the tall green trees over head. I loved how the forest looked when it was thick and green.

The trails had dimmed the natural light also since the trees were blocking the sun, which casted shadows everywhere.

I just kept waiting for something to lerk out from the shadows and get me, which would make my nightmare come true.

A few times I ran into some wildlife: birds were fluttering everywhere in the trees, deer would bolt at the sight of me, and I even saw a fox run after a squirrel.

Other than that, there was nothing else.

I came out of the woods slightly disappointed that I hadn't seen any clues that would confirm what I had saw.

I went back inside and got out my book to read.

My parents arrived fifteen minutes later and then we all had lunch together.

"We should go climb Silver Mountain today!" My mom excitedly told me and dad at lunch.

I had been mostly playing with my food and moving it around, not being really hungry.

"Sounds like a plan, how about it Hayden?" My dad turned to me.

"Uhhh" suddenly I wasn't feeling so good as I continued to poke my food with my fork. "I'm not really feeling well, maybe you should go without me."

Half the reason was because I wanted to go find the animal in the woods, and the other half being that I actually didn't feel good. Even my velveeta cheese shells weren't looking tasty today. And that said something.

"Hmmm" my mom muttered as of course she felt my forehead. "You do seem a little warm. Maybe you should stay home and get some more rest."

I thanked God that my temperature was up as I put my dishes away and went to my room.

About an hour later my parents left me once again, even though I actually didn't mind being home alone. I was laying down on my bed reading my book once again when I decided to go out for another walk in the woods. I was feeling better all of a sudden, probably due to my urge of seeing something.

I locked the Cabin and left to go find the trail, deciding that I wouldn't take Maggie with me this time in case he would scare something off.

It was exactly like this morning when I was walking, only seeing small critters every once in a while.

When I was about half a mile out I felt it.

The feeling of something following me. Again.

As my nerves picked up so did my excitement even though I was hesitant at what was watching me in the woods.

I looked around trying to catch some sort of movement in the trees. When I found none, disappointment once again flooded through me.

I shook my head and kept walking deeper into the forest, determined to find something.

I was looking at the ground while walking when I noticed there was something taking up the trail ahead of me.

Looking up, my body froze in shock while stopping in its tracks.

He was right ahead of me standing in the middle of the trail.

"Carter?!?!" I asked bewildered.
