Chapter 10

"-so you live in Michigan?"

This must have been the fifth question Carter had asked since we had headed out. He was acting like nothing had happened earlier and we were back to being friends, or whatever we were before.

I just kept staring straight ahead and stayed silent- like I had done with all his other questions.

"Where are you from in Michigan? Lower peninsula?"

Again with my silence.

"You're probably one of the most stubborn people I have met, and I live with-" He paused to glance at me. "-a lot of stubborn people..."

Though I hadn't expected him to say that, I focused my stare on the road ahead of us and again, ignored him.

I heard a frustrated sigh beside me.

"Come on Hayden. Your not gonna do this the whole ride?"

I acted interested in a sign along side the road and pursed my lips.

Out of the corner if my eye I could see Carter shake his head.

About an hour later, we suddenly turned off of the main road and headed onto a private drive.

I picked my head up, giving up on acting like I was sleeping.

The road turned to a dirt road and trees started to enclose us as we drove farther.

I checked the mirror to see that Cole was still behind us.

When I turned back around, I found us coming to a stop in between two tower like structures.

They were big and made out of stone, and towered over our SUVs.

A man walked out of one and came up to Carter's window.

Carter put the window down as the guy nodded his head at him.

"Alpha"

I stared at him, wondering if he was some sort of body guard since he was big and muscular like Carter.

"Tell Liam we're back." Carter said shortly and started driving away. I saw the curious look the man gave me before he turned to go back inside.

I took my feet off the dashboard and sat up, looking around.

The trees on either side of us were thick, but ahead I could see people along side the road watching us.

Most of them were men, and looked like the guy who had stopped us, but I did see some women here and there. The thing was, most all of the guys weren't wearing shirts, and it wasn't even hot outside. Today actually it was cloudy and it looked like it would rain soon.

I felt uncomfortable as I noticed them whispering to each other and even pointing to me.

I slid back and ducked so I could escape their stares.

Carter noticed me do this and he sped up while glaring at the people, who immediately went back to their work.

I wanted to ask Carter a million questions- starting with where the heck were we- but I kept my mouth shut.

Carter side glanced me and continued driving.

A couple minutes later, we were driving through a small town or village. There were at first, a few houses scattered in the woods. Now I could see the houses multiplying as we went.

Everyone stopped what they were doing and stole glances our way, some nodding and even waving.

Where were we?
