Chapter 7
I couldn't help but feel nervous, walking down the mysterious trail, leading me farther into the forest.
My parents had just left to go out to eat while I offered to stay home since I wasn't hungry. I told them to take their time and not hurry back so they could spend time together, but really I wanted to buy some time.
All I could think about was Carter all day and night, and I wanted to go see him again.
Getting ready I decided to put on jean shorts and a purple shirt while leaving my hair down, wanting to look somewhat good for later. I didn't know where Carter was going to meet me but I assumed it would be the same place as yesterday.
I grabbed my cell phone in case my parents decided to call and I headed out the door.
Maggie whined, wanting me to take her with, but I just kept walking while giving her an apologetic look.
Now, my breathing had picked up a bit, due to the fact that I was about to see him.
Once I reached around the same place Carter had saw me yesterday, I stopped, sitting down against a big oak tree when I couldn't see anything.
I took out my phone and watched the minutes pass by, while going on twitter just to speed the time up.
I jumped about three feet in the air when something from behind grabbed my shoulder.
I gasped and tried to stop the heart attack I was about to have when I noticed it was Carter, smiling down at me.
"Gotcha" he said, quietly chuckling.
I stood up and rolled my eyes at him. "Really? Thanks for the heart attack"
I eyed him up and down, noticing the dark jeans and tight blue shirt he was wearing, that matched his eyes. His dark hair was of course sticking up, but looking like he styled it that way on purpose. It looked so soft and I wanted to run my hand through it.
As he walked up closer to me all I could think about was our kiss, and how I wanted to do exactly that again.
"So where are we going today?" I asked while looking behind him in the direction of the lake from yesterday. Actually I didn't exactly know where it was at, but it was really cool.
He grabbed my hand and started going a completely different direction, looking like he was in deep thought.
"I have a better place today" he said distractedly as I followed, feeling excited.
We came to the edge of the woods, but no where near the cabin. A sleek black SUV was parked on the side and Carter walked up to it, opening the door to let me in. He gave me a small smile and I returned it, wondering where he would take me.
When Carter got in and started driving down an unfamiliar dirt road I was getting anxious.
"So, where are we going?" I asked.
He looked zoned out for a second before he turned to look at me.
"It's a surprise" he shrugged.
Settling back down I watched as we passed by trees after trees, and then fields after fields. After about 20 minutes I grew even more anxious but kept myself from saying anything.
It was a surprise and I didn't want to ruin it. Maybe we were going to a nice restaurant, I thought. Butterflies formed in my stomach at the thought of a date between us.
But ten minutes later when we got into an express way I couldn't help but start to panic. I didn't know how long my parents would actually be gone and if they came home and found me missing, they would freak.
I also wondered why Carter didn't ask if my mom and dad were home or not, like he had done yesterday.
"Where are we going?" We were getting farther away from where the cabin was. After all, we had been driving for almost a half hour.
I noticed Carter's hands tighten on the steering wheel but he stayed silent.
"Carter!" I was panicking now. What was going on?
His stare on the road hardened and he glanced up at the rear view mirror quickly.
I turned to look behind us and caught sight of another SUV, identical to Carter's, following closely behind.
I strained my eyes, trying to catch a glimpse of the driver.
"Is that Cole?"
Carter again looked behind us and nodded.
"What? Why is he....what?!"
So this wasn't a date since Cole would be coming. I might have been happy to see him if I wasn't flipping out.
"Carter tell me where we are going" I demanded.
"Don't worry Hayden" was all he said.
"No, take me back right now. I want to go back"
I pulled on my door and noticed it had been locked.
Was he kidnapping me? Or worst, were they both kidnapping me?
I didn't care how stupid I was acting, I wasn't about to get taken.
I quickly pressed the unlock button and wrenched open the door, preparing myself for the jump. We were on the express way, but there was hardly any other cars. We were also going very fast, thanks to Carter's speeding.
Before I could decide to jump it or not, a hand grabbed my arm and held me back in.
"You better stay in here" his voice was threatening.
"You better pull over right now" I said taking out my phone I remembered I had.
I held it out of his reach until I felt the vehicle slowing down and stopping on the side I the road.
Carter sighed looking at me. He reached over and shut my door while also snatching my phone away.
"Give me that back" I glared at him.
He suddenly got out of the vehicle and wet over to my side. I noticed Cole coming to stand by his side as well.
I opened my door and stepped out. "Cole you have to let me go. Tell him to let me go!" I desperately looked at him.
The expression on Cole's face was torn, probably deciding whether to side with me or Carter.
"Sorry" He said as he took out a cloth from behind his back and held it over my mouth and nose, forcing me to breath in the intoxicating fumes.
And I felt myself drift into unconsciousness until everything went black.
