Chapter 6

"Carter?!?!"

I couldn't believe who was in front of me right now.

"How'd you, where...?" My voice went up an octave.

"Hey" he half smiled at me.

"No, you can't just appear and say hey, what are you doing here!" I fired at him, regaining my voice. He was acting so calm.

He shrugged "Just came by. I was in town today and the guy at the gas station told me where to find you."

"He did?" I scrunched up my eyebrows.

"Yeah, he knows me well enough though. Don't worry he won't just tell anyone who comes by." he smirked.

I opened my mouth but then shut it again. Carter came to visit me at my cabin, but he appeared in the middle of the woods?

He chuckled and grabbed my hand.

"Come on, don't let me ruin your little nature walk" there was humor in his voice as he started walking along the path with me.

We were close together because the trail was so narrow as it got deeper into the woods and whenever we brushed sides a tingling sensation exploded.

"What were you doing out here in the woods?" I asked him a while later when I still couldn't explain how he had showed up.

He kept his eyes on the path ahead and said "come on, I want to show you something." Completely ignoring my question.

I followed wondering what he would lead me to. I had never been this deep in the woods before and I was glad my parents wouldn't get home until late.

Once we walked for a few more minutes in silence, with him still holding my hand, he turned and completely took me off the trail.

I was going to ask him where we were going when we came to a clearing.

It was surrounded by trees with patches of green grass everywhere. The most beautiful thing about it was the lake in the middle with a few small trees around it.

I was speechless as I looked around.

I could feel Carter searching me for a reaction so I smiled. "This is amazing. How'd you find it?"

He smiled back, seeming satisfied. "You know, just wandering around and came a crossed it."

I gave him a weird look but he started pulling me towards one of the trees by the lake to sit down in the shade.

His dark hair was slightly blowing in the breeze and his blue eyes were watching my every move as I tried not to make eye contact.

I was keeping myself busy by picking up tiny stones and throwing them in the water.

I wanted to strike up a conversation but all I had was a million questions about this boy in front of me.

I heard a noise somewhere behind the trees then, that reminded me of why I came here in the first place. I looked around trying, but failing, to see deeper into the forest.

"What?" Carter asked looking in the direction I had looked in.

I shrugged trying to cover it up. "What kind of animals are in here?" I casually asked, though I was starting to get curious.

"Don't worry, they won't hurt you" he said chuckling.

I stared at him with no humor. "No I mean what 'kinds' of animals are in here?"
