Chapter 17

"Carter?"

"Hmm?"

I turned to look over where he was getting ready for the day. He had to go to the pack building once again this morning and he was on his computer doing last minute things.

I was already dressed from the closet that I found out had expensive clothes that fit me in its huge walk-in. It was located down the hall beside my own bathroom. I picked out a pair of jeans and a dark blue top that I noticed matched Carter's eyes. Both still had price tags on them and I gapped at the big numbers.

I came to catch Carter before he left for the day. I needed to ask him now or never.

"Before you go...can I ask you something?" I asked unsure.

"Sure." He replied still staring at his computer.

"You have to promise to give me an explanation before you go though." I warned.

He didn't move from his spot. "Okay." He said flatly.

I wondered if he was even listening to me but I continued anyway- this might be my only chance.

"Liam said that you need to tell me about werewolf mates." I said quickly before he could bolt out the door.

Carter looked away from his screen finally. "What did he tell you?" he said clenching his jaw. He sounded annoyed and a little angry, which surprised me.

"He said to ask you." I said quieter this time, feeling intimidated by his bad mood.

He closed his eyes and exhaled. "You don't need to worry about that right now."

"You mean it doesn't have anything to to do with me?" I said confused. Liam made it sound like it was pretty important.

"Well...it might, but you don't need to know right now." he said in a strained voice.

"Why not?" I demanded crossing my arms and taking a step closer.

"Because I said so." Carter hardened his glare at me and then returned to his computer.

"Why do you insist on treating me like I'm five years old?!" My blood was boiling. Every time I asked him something this happened!

"Hayden, you're the one acting like your five years old." He turned back to me.

"Why can't you just tell me Carter? You always ignore me and act like I don't exist!" I was yelling at him now and he was raising his voice as well.

Even though the look he gave me told me to back down I just kept on arguing back.

"I already told you no!" His voice was deadly, but his glare was what made me shrink back.

"You are so frustrating!" I screamed while turning my back on him so he wouldn't see I was about to cry.

"I'm the frustrating one?! I'm not the one who asks millions of questions every day and then cries when I don't get what I want!!"

I inhaled sharply, digging my nails in my skin so I wouldn't start sobbing. It would only satisfy him.

I faced him again. "You are such a jerk! I hate you!" My voice cracked at the ending.

His eyes went black and he looked so dangerous I took a step back when he stood up.

He was shaking and it reminded me of when he showed me his wolf.

He looked like he was going to shift.
