"Yeah! Woooh!" The crowd yelled as they watched my mother and father's bodies go limp and fall over. I squeezed my eyes tighter, pushing out more tears. I grabbed onto my mother's butterfly necklace I wore with the hand that has my father's ring. My free hand clenched and turn into a white knuckles fist.
"Lilly, we got orders to go." Jen said as she grabbed onto my shoulder. I still kept my head turned away from up front, but I slowly turned my body to face Jen who was behind me. I opened my eyes and looked at Jen.
"You ok?" She asked in a worried tone. I wiped my eyes and took a deep breath.
"Yeah." I sighed. Jen nodded her head and we walked out of the crowd.
We walked behind a building and on the other side was our carriage. We got in, and I leaned my head on the I window. A few minuets later, the cheers quieted down and Julia joined us.
"I'm sorry about that Lilly." Julia said.
"It's fine." I huffed.
The carriage began moving, and Julia started again.
"If you don't mind me asking, what was said?" I ignored her and continued looking out the window.
"Mr. and Mrs. Starks claimed that there is another civilization with people living outside the walls." Jen said.
"Ready?!" Julia gasped.
"Yes!" Jen said, by the tone of her voice she seemed very happy and excited. But how can you not? To think that we're not the only thing left of humanity, it gives us all one word. Hope.
"We're going back to the cave right?" I asked, still looking out the window.
"No, not yet. Sense Jen and I will be given a new position we're going to the castle in Wall Shina. Your going to have to stay at a safe distance with a hood over your head." Sighed Julia. I grunted and rolled my eyes.
Within a day and a half of nonstop traveling, we go the the castle in Wall Shina. The promotion wouldn't be until a few hours from now, so we stopped at another inn to stay at.
"What do you want to do? It's only 5:00 and we have until 8." Nagged Jen.
"I dont know, I'm not even sure if I can go to it." I sighed.
"Julia said you could. But you need to ware something over your face."
"I dont know if I want to do that. I think it's pretty dumb."
"Does your answer always begin with 'I dont know'?" Jen giggled.
"I dont know." I teased. We both laughed a little, then Jen started it up again.
"No, but seriously. Can you go, it would mean a lot to me." She half giggled. I looked at her, and she could tell what I was thinking. Jen then jumped on the bed and grabbed my arm.
"Pleeaassse!" She begged. I tried to keep a straight face, but she then made a stupid face, and I couldn't help myself.
"Fine, I'll go." I laughed.
"So what do you want to do now?" Jen asked, getting up and started pacing.
"You want to walk around town?" I asked.
"Sure." We then left the room and told Julia where we were going. As we got outside I felt the cool air hit my face. It wasn't what I was really used to, but I dealt with it. In Nishi District the weather was a little warmer, but Shina was definitely not as cold as it was up north where our glass went to for a few weeks.
Jen and I walked along the sidewalk that was near many stores.
"So who else with be there?" I asked.
"I dont know, I think there's one MP officer that'll be promoted." Sighed Jen. We walked to a stair case that was inhabited, and very quiet. I sat on the railing, and Jen planted herself on the first step, with her legs extending down others. Jen chuckled and said "This reminds me of when we were kids. Always getting into trouble, then hiding on the stair case near Mariana's house."
"Yeah, good times." I sighed.
"I know I shouldn't be thinking this, but I wonder what the Survey Corps is doing to her." I lowered my head, and said that Mariana was killed in the fight between Tom and I.
"You sure?" She asked. I nodded my head and said "I shouldn't be thinking this either, but I keep having this feeling that Mariana wasn't the bad guy."
"What do you mean?" Jen asked.
"Well, once we captured her she told us anything we asked her. I dont know, maybe I just a thought she was in the same situation as my parents were." I Sighed.
"She probably did that because she had nothing to lose anymore. Lilly, Mariana betrayed humanity. She was never trying to help it, always wanted to destroy it." Jen said. I moved my eyes to look at her face, and she looked very angry.
"You've lost all faith in her didn't you?"
"Do you?! Why do you still believe in that Mariana is good?! She's evil! Because of her I lost my arm and now of this metal hunk of junk! Because of her I lost all my memories of you!" Jen yelled. I looked around and luckily no one was near by to over hear.
"She's also the one who killed Michelle." Jen whispered as she begins to cry. My eyes widened as the memories of Michelle flashed through my head. When I first met her, and her smiling face. She always wanted to be near us because we were the only older cadets who where nice and welcomed her into our cabin. Then the memory of her last day on this world came up. It was raining and we were walking the woods carrying large bags on our backs. Then a lightning strike hit a tree and came towering down at me, but she pushed me out of the way. Causing her demise. My eyes began tearing up as a picture of her face came to mind. I wiped my eyes and said "Ok, I get it."
It became very silent, and I looked at the clock tower near by. It read 6:02. I rolled my eyes because we still had I long time before the Jen's promotion. I thought for a few minutes of a subject that would maybe change Jen's mood.
"So after all this ends, what do you plan on doing?" I asked.
"I dont know, probably go on some missions outside the wall down near Shiganshina." She started as she wipes her eyes.
"What do you plan on doing?"
"After hearing that there's a civilization outside the walls makes me very hopeful. After we finish everything here I want to escape and live outside the walls in my Titan and look for them." I said. I moved my arms behind me and leaned back.
Jen looked at me, and something seemed off.
"What?" I asked.
"Nothing." I rolled my eyes and looked drown the hill the stairs were going.
We soon left the stair way and walked around town for a while. Jen stopped at a store to get a bottle of wine to drink when we celebrate.
"Sense when do you drink? Also we're not of age." I said because I hated it.
"I'm just going to have one glass. It's a promotion, that seems like a good time to celebrate. And you can't celebrate if u don't have a drink!" She laughed.
"You sound drunk already." I stated.
"Shut up." She said. We got to the inn and put the wine in a bucket of ice. I laid on one of the beds and watched as Jen ran back and forth getting ready.
"Don't you just have to ware the Scouts uniform. It's not that hard." I said.
"Yeah, but we always ware it. It's dirty, and my hair is all over the place."
"Dirty means hard working." I said.
"I get that, but the Supreme Commander will be there, so I don't want to look like a reck."
"You look like a reck no matter what you do." I laughed.
"You should be getting ready too." Snapped Jen. I sighed and got of the bed. I picked up my Survey Corps cape and put it on. I pull up my hood and say "I'm ready!" Thankfully Jen was ready too, and it was the time that we left. We joined up with Julia and got unit a carriage that took us too the castle.
"This carriage will drop you off a block away. There's a mill near by, if you climb it you should be able to see." Said Julia. I nodded my head and begin to close the door. As it shuts Jen yells to keep my hood up.
The carriage starts moving again and in a few minuets stops. I look out the window, and see the mill Julia was talking about. I get out of the carriage and thank the driver. I walk for a few minutes to the mill and climb a few blacks of wood, and sit for the time being. I make sure my hood it pulled over part of my face by giving the top a small tug. I cross my arms over the blank across my chest and rest my head on my arms. I watch as people walk by. Some ignoring me and going on with their lives, some glancing over at me. The faces I see look at me, I can tell that they're curious or nervous looking at a person with a hood over their face. As it gets closer to 8:00 the sun slowly starts to set, making a beautiful orange color. When the sun finally was completely gone, and the moon was beginning to shine along with the stars, I climbed the rest of the way up the mill and sat back down. All the torches that illuminated the area of the promotion instantly drew my eyes towards it.
I heard a deep voice from the area up ahead, announcing for the three people getting a promotion to step forward.
"Jen Carsol of the Survey Corps. Julia Carsol of the Survey Corps.-" the man with the deep voice started. I watch as Jen and Julia step forward on the stage. I look over to all the cadets from the three branches and then the Training Corps. Then the man continues.
"Carol Kipe, of the Military Police." My eyes widened, and I repeat Carol's name in disbelief it was actually her, until I watch walk up on stage.
