Chapter 13 Back Slashed

It's been 3 years sense the MV gear test. Mariana, Jen, Carol, Michelle, Tom and I are now 18. Shaun is 19. Tom and Shaun have gotten taller and stronger, even their shoulders have gotten wider. Carol and Michelle, have gotten taller and have really showed potential to becoming a soldier. Mariana has stopped growing when she was 16, but we will never underestimate her size. Because her heart and strength are the largest in the 198th Training Corps. Jen is about 2 inches shorter then me and can be lazy at times. She seems to be crazy when we have a chance to be alone with the MV gear, but she quickly comes back to her responsibilities.

"Lilly!!! Snap out of it!" Yelled Jen. I shook my head as I came back to reality.
"Sorry, what is it?" I asked.
"Aren't you excited?! We'er going into the woods!! We are actually going to cut up some Titan necks!!" Said Jen. She widened her eyes and had a smile from ear to ear across her face.
"They're fake." Said Mariana.
"Oh Mariana, who cares if they are fake! This will tell if we are able to slice some meat! This our chance!" Replied Jen.

I rolled my eyes, and laughed a little. Suddenly the bell rang, and we through out or left over breakfast and lined up. I was surprised that we stayed until the finale bell. Usually we are out in the yard a half hour before.

Battlow assigned us our MV gear to get ready in. The gear was strapped onto my back holding the gas tanks on the machine that pushed out the gas, making us move forward. The straps crossed over the side of my torso, and across my back. The belt holds other straps across the front and my rear end. Then it goes across both my legs. On the side of my thighs are the attachment to holding my gas tanks. The straps criss cross down my shins and calves. Finally the straps end at me feet, where another thicker strap is attached to the others. It sounds complicated, but we were able to learn it through out the 3 years. It's all about shifting you weight.

I was finally done. I held the controllers, which made the wires shoot out of the machine, in my hands. I loaded them up with our blades. The swords we used were long and flexible. Our instructor said that for our weapons to cut through the back of the neck of a Titan, the swords would have to be able to bend. I pulled the loaded weapon out and held it as if I was going to strike someone right then and there. I watched the others get ready, then all of a sudden Battlow come up behind me and puts his hand on my shoulder. I turn my head as fast as I could. My eyes were laid on his.

"Your one of the fastest people I've seen get ready." Said Battlow in a stern voice. I nodded my head and said "Thank you, Sir!" He turned and walked away.

"I'll meet you guys in the trees." I said, impatiently.
"Wait!! I'm almost done!" I heard someone yell, but it was too late. I have already ran off and launched myself into the air. I closed my eyes for a few seconds, feeling the wind hit against my face. I launched a wire into a tree to keep me up in the air. I pulled the trigger that let's out more gas. I was fast, but not so fast I would run out of gas.

I got enough momentum to fling myself in the air, and able to do a backflip.
"WHAT ARE YOU DOING!?!?" I heard someone yelled. I pulled back my wires and spun around, it was Shaun.
"I just did a backflip, I swear!" I yelled back. I saw him smile, and I smiled back.

I swung myself back, so that I would face forward. Suddenly a 'Titan' figure turned around, making itself open to my blades. I changed directions, making myself go to the right.
"WHERE YOU GOING!?" Yelled Shaun. I ignored him and pursued my way around. Instead of heading right to the dummy, I will go around and have a 'surprise' on the figure.

When I finally got into place where I could turn back and cut the dummy, I saw that Shaun was heading for it, thinking it was an easy score. I turned my direction back to the dummy and launched myself as fast as I could to it. I made myself lay completely straight and had my blades over my head. As I got closer and closer to the dummy I saw that Shaun was going to hit me if I keep going the same speed. So I pulled the trigger even more, which made me fly through the forest with a high speed. Finally I got to the dummy, and Shaun was at least three feet away from me. I swung my self up so that I wouldn't be laying down any more. I was up right and I clenched on the end of my weapons. Finally I swung my swords forward as hard as I could. Justin stopped, so that he wouldn't hit me. I sliced through the fake meat.

A few yards away, I turned to see how 'well' I did. It was perfect! I cut a large enough chunk out, that would have killed a real Titan. But, I saw that Shaun was still there, hanging there. Amazed? Jealous? He turned his head to me and had a shocked face. I gave him some kind of sassy smirk, and he smiled and shook his head. Then he pulled his trigger and left the scene. I rolled my eyes as turned back.

As I was flying through the forest, looking for another opening, Mariana raced by me. I felt the wind she made as she went passed. How could she be moving so fast? I pulled my trigger, to catch up to her.

Suddenly a Titan dummy turned, showing us it's open neck. I'm guessing Mariana has seen it, because she speeded up. I speed up to, but not as fast as her. As we got closer to the dummy, I saw Mariana wind-up to strike the neck. I didn't, not yet. I wasn't close enough.

Mariana hit the target, but I don't know how deep she cut it. As I winded-up to hit the dummy, I saw someone in the corner of my eye. I slightly turned my head and saw that someone, I couldn't tell who, was attempting to do the trick I did on the first dummy. I pulled my trigger to increase my speed. I didn't want to lose to some kind of 'copier'. As I got to the dummy faster, I saw that the cadet who is trying my technique was begging to turn to the dummy. But it was to late, I'm already in range to slice the neck.

I put my arms over my head, and swung my legs upward. Then I put all my force into my legs, and swung them downward. Making my body flip. As I spinning, I sliced the target. I stopped myself from spinning, and stopped at a tree branch. I kneeled down and took out my top gas tanks. I put the left one next to my ear and tapped my finger against the metal.
"Empty." I said to myself. I put the left tank down, and picked up the right. I put it next to my ear and tapped my finger on it.
"This one is empty too. I'll just put the full ones at the top and theses on the bottom." I said quietly, hoping know one will hear me talk.

I put the full tanks on the top and the empty on the bottom. I didn't want to waste anymore time, so I quickly grabbed my blades an launched a wire. I jumped off the brach and pulled my trigger. As I was 'flying' I looked, and remembered that I could go higher into the tree tops, and follow someone underneath me. I launched two wires from side to side, making myself stop. I had the first two wires let go, having myself fall.
"LILLY!!" I heard someone yell. I launched a wire, going toward the sky.

I pulled my trigger and I 'flew' upward. I stopped and landed on another tree branch. I looked down and saw that someone was heading to a dummy. I jumped off and launched a wire. I looked down and followed the cadet. I looked forward and saw the dummy, I speed up, eventually passing the other cadet. I looked down, I was right above the target. I launched a wire towards the ground and pulled my trigger. I raced down to the dummy. A few yards away from the dummy, I winded-up. I swung my arms down. I hit the target before the other cadet got close to it. I looked over and saw that it was Shaun. Again who I got in front off and hit the target before him.

I turned around and saw that my cut was deep. Then Shaun raced by and cut the dummy. I stared at his cut, shocked. His cut was deeper then mine! I made a 'cocky' smile and left the scene. I stayed at the same level as I was when I started.

I flew through the forest, waiting for another target to open up. Eventually one did, and I raced up to it. As I was beginning to wind-up and hit the target, something sharp ran down my back. I gasped and began to fall. I looked, to see what, or who did this to me.

A dark silhouette was flying over. I looked at the person's blades, and saw that there was blood. My blood! As I was falling, I hit a few branches.

Finally I hit the ground with a strong impact. But nothing broke, nothing snapped. All I felt was the burning down my back. I lost grip and letted go of my trigger and blades. I slowly moved my hand underneath my back. I pulled my hand out and saw that it was covered in blood.
