Jeff's POV:
A few weeks later, Vanessa and Dean ask Stephanie to take a small break. We hear a knock on our door and open it. Vanessa and I are in the studio and we sing.
Hello darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping
Left it's seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains within the sound of silence
In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone
'Neath the halo of a street lamp
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed
By the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence
And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more
People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
People writing songs
That voices never share
And no one dare
Disturb the sound of silence
"Fools" said I, "you do not know
Silence like a cancer grows
Hear my words that I might teach you
Take my arms that I might reach you"
But my words like silent raindrops fell
And echoed in the wells of silence
And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon God they made
And the sign flashed out it's warning
And the words that it was forming
And the sign said
"The words of the prophets
Are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls"
And whispered in the sound of silenceAs Matt looks at us shocked, he comes in and saves the song. He records one with Vanessa.
All those days watching from the windows
All those years outside looking in
All that time never even knowing
Just how blind I've beenNow I'm here, blinking in the starlight
Now I'm here, suddenly I see
Standing here, it's all so clear
I'm where I'm meant to beAnd at last I see the light
And it's like the fog has lifted
And at last I see the light
And it's like the sky is new
And it's warm and real and bright
And the world has somehow shifted
All at once everything looks different
Now that I see youAll those days chasing down a daydream
All those years living in a blur
All that time never truly seeing
Things the way they wereNow she's here shining in the starlight
Now she's here, suddenly I know
If she's here it's crystal clear
I'm where I'm meant to goAnd at last I see the light
And it's like the fog has lifted
And at last I see the light
And it's like the sky is new
And it's warm and real and bright
And the world has somehow shifted
All at once, everything is different
Now that I see you
Now that I see you...Vanessa's POV:
After the song gets saved, Matt leaves and I record a song with Dean.
Vanessa:
You showed me the world
When I was all locked up inside,
You reached out your hand
And took me on a magic carpet ride
One look at your smile,
And I could see the light
Shining everywhere
People like you don't come out of thin air.Dean:
Oh, Vanessa
You don't understand
There is so much that you don't see
Just think, if you can,
What growing up had to be like for me
Your father's a man
Who taught you who you are--
Mine was never there
So how can you say
I don't come out of thin air?
There's so much I want to knowVanessa:
You've got the chance to learnDean:
If it means I'd have to go--Vanessa:
I'll be right here when you return...
Our wedding can waitDean:
I love youVanessa:
I think it's worth this small delayDean:
Maybe you're rightVanessa:
And won't it be great
To have your father see our scrapbook?Dean:
I've waited so longVanessa:
It isn't too lateDean:
To learn the truthBoth:
And now at last, we can finally sayVanessa:
Your father is really thereDean:
There's so much that we might shareVanessa:
And you'll finally learnBoth:
You don't come out of thin airDean leaves as I sing a song.
Look at me
You may think you see who I really am,
But you'll never know me
Every day
It's as if I play a part
Now I see
If I wear a mask
I can fool the world
But I cannot fool my heart
Who is that girl I see
Staring straight
Back at me?
When will my reflection show
Who I am inside?
I am now
In a world where I have to hide my heart,
And what I believe in
But somehow
I will show the world what's inside my heart
And be loved for who I am
Who is that girl I see
Staring straight
Back at me?
Why is my reflection someone I don't know?
Must I pretend that I'm
Someone else for all time?
When will my reflection show
Who I am inside?
There's a heart that must be free to fly,
That burns with a need to know the reason why
Why must we all conceal
What we think
How we feel?
Must there be a secret me
I'm forced to hide?
I won't pretend that I'm someone else
For all time
When will my reflection show
Who I am inside?
When will my reflection show
Who I am inside? As I leave the studio, Jeff, Matt and Dean call the neighbors and we get ready for a barbecue.
