As I got ready for my first dinner with everybody that attended Silvercrest, I thought about what had happened last night. Evan had seemed so hopeful last night, but when I turned him down, it looked like I had chipped away at his heart. I knew that he loved me, probably just a little bit, but I knew I had a shot at the crown. But there was one thing in my way... did I really want the crown? Was I ready to become royalty? And most importantly, was I ready to govern an entire country?
I saw Aurelie on the phone, tears carefully balancing on the edges of her eyelashes. When she noticed me staring, she tried to wipe them away, but I had already walked up to her at this point. I waited to speak, so right as she put her phone down, I hugged her. "What's wrong?" I ask, rubbing her shoulder. She just shook her head, and finally let the tears escape from her shaking body. "M-m-my little b-b-br-brother j-just d-d-d-died!!!!!" she stuttered, her throat dry from crying. I was never good with comforting people, especially people I had just met 3 days ago. "I can tell he meant the world to you," I say, trying my best to console her. "You don't understand!" she snapped, and walked out the door.
Great, so it hasn't even been a week, and my roommate already hates me. Aren't I just sooo good with people! (hehe, NO). I decided that I might as well try to find someone else to talk to, besides Aur and Evan. Evan probably had work to do, and Aurelie, well, we all know what happened to her.
I walk out the door, attempting to walk as slow as possible, so I don't end up walking into Aurelie. I pass the gardens and see a girl painting. On her canvas is a beautiful picture of a peony. I walk up next to her, and she is startled by my presence. She flings her paintbrush in the air, and it lands in my hair. "Great, just great," I thought to myself. "Oooh! I'm so sorry!" she exclaims, pulling the paintbrush out of my hair. "It's fine," I mumble, the paint already drying and flaking. I carefully pull out the flakes and throw them onto the grass. "Well, I'm Laurenna Fox," she held out her hand. I shook it and replied, "What a pleasure it is to meet you.""I know you're not that polite, I've heard rumors about you," she laughed. "Oh really? And who might I ask was making these rumors?" I ask, putting a hand on my hip. "Oh, I don't know, perhaps his Royal Highness!" she shrugged, pretending it wasn't a big deal. "What did he say?" I question, now curious. "Um, well... he told me not to tell anyone," she grinned, and walked away. She left me with my mouth wide open, not sure of how to react. When I finally came back to my senses, I thought, "Boy, Prince Evan has some explaining to do."
I have never been near the Royal Suites, so I just stood by the door, unsure of what to do. That's when I heard footsteps. Oh, thank God! I turn around, expecting one of the maids to be walking up, but instead it's Prince Evan. His brown hair is neatly combed, and he's wearing a suit, how predictable. His ocean blue eyes are sparkling, and his smile is lopsided. "So... you're just too good to open a door, huh?" he laughed as he walked to me. "Oh yeah, that's totally accurate," I joke, and lightly punch his arm. He laughs and hugs me. "How are you darling?" he whispers softly into my ear. "Welllll, I actually need to talk to you," I whisper back, playfully nipping his ear. He shakes his head and smiles, "What have you been up to, Bree?" he chuckles.
Evan holds the door for me, what a gentleman, and I walk in. The walls are a soft peach color, with gold chandeliers hanging in a straight line all the way through the corridor. I gasp at the luxuriousness, and I feel Evan's arms wrap around my waist. "Do you like it?" he asks. "Yeah," I breathe, taking in the room. He leads me to his room, plopping down onto a chair. I ask him with a tilt of my head if I can sit down too. "You don't need to ask!" he grins, and motions me to sit down. "What did you need to tell me, Brianna?" he crosses his legs, waiting for my response. "Two things," I start. "Talk away," he says.
"My roommate hates me."
"Why? Were you rude? Cause, no offense, but you can be."
"Ugh, NOT helping, Evan! And, no, I wasn't rude. I saw her crying on the phone, and I asked her what was wrong, and she said her little brother died. I tried to console her, but when I did, she just snapped at me."
"Well, what did you say to console her?"
"I just said that he must've meant a lot to her."
"Huh, that's weird. Maybe she's just having an off-day. After all, she's under a lot of stress, I mean... her brother just died. My best advice would just be to leave her alone for a while. Anyway, what's the other thing?'
"Oh, a little birdie told me that you're spreading rumors!"
He blushes. "I don't know," he says, putting on an innocent face. I decided to not push him. He would probably just keep trying to defend himself, so why bother? I shook my head, laughing. "Wanna walk with me to dinner?" I ask, standing up. "Of course, my lady," he responds. "I would argue about calling me 'your lady', but I won't since that's a better name than 'darling'" I giggle. He takes my hand, and we walk to the restaurant.
When we reach the restaurant, he leaves me to go talk to his parents. I sit down next to Laurenna and another girl with curly blonde hair and gray/blue eyes. Laurenna smiles at me, and the other girl swivels in her chair. "Hello!" she greets. "Hi!" I give a small wave. I notice Evan staring at me from his side of the table, but when his father glares at him, he looks down at his plate. The blonde girl speaks up again. "I'm Krista, who are you?"
"I'm Brianna. I love your hair, is it naturally curly?"
"Yeah... it's a pain to brush it in the morning," she replies, laughing. Her long hair is in a high ponytail with a black, satin bow. When dinner ends, I stay back to talk to Evan. He walks over to me, grinning. "Wanna hang out tomorrow?" I ask. "So you DO like me!" he proclaims. I simply raise an eyebrow and walk away.
