Her face is so familiar. Her hair in the same braid. But her eyes have a hardness to it. "It can't be," I say to myself. "Oh, but it is," her voice cuts. "Laurenna, how could you?!" I cry. "I thought you were my friend?!" I scream. Her hair swishes over her shoulder, and she puts her hand on her hip. "I only came because the Western rebels needed someone to spy," she explains. "And she's not the only one," the same masculine voice that I heard a few minutes ago said. "Blake," I shout, "I knew there was something off about you. I'm not surprised at the least," I stand up, but am soon whipped.
"Don't bother," he warns. I nod, and sit back down. "Lie down," he commands. I kneel over and lie down on the concrete floor, with my back facing up. Laurenna walks over to me, and during all of this, I see sadness in her eyes for a split second. "I'm sorry, Bree," she whispers softly, but then harshness returns to her facial expression.
She rips the back of my dress open, and slaps it. I whimper, and a tear slips out. "Shut up, you," she growls. Blake comes over and grabs the whip. "How many times should we do this?" he asks. "How 'bout 20?" Laurenna evilly answers. I grimace, and prepare myself for the excruciating pain.
"One," Blake says, and flicks the whip onto my back. I cry out and bite my lip. Blood trickles out, and I scream. At number ten, my back burns like crazy. But, that's when someone walks in, making light stream into the cramped room. "Brianna!" a voice yells. "Evan?" I ask weakly. "Bree!" he rushes over to me, grabbing my arm. When he realizes that my back is bare and as red as a tomato, he bends over to examine it.
"Oh, you look terrible, Bree," he whispers. "Gee, thanks," I roll my eyes. But, when he strokes his fingers across the scars, I cry out. "I'm sorry, darling," he apologizes, and I'm too meek to object to what he called me. "Guards, seize these two people and bring them into the light so I can see them clearly," he orders. Immediately, 5 guards are surrounding us, and beside them are Laurenna and Blake.
Evan's face is shocked. "Laurenna... how could you?" he grabs her neck and strangles her. "WHAT DID YOU DO?!!" he bellows. "And, you... Blake... I knew you were up to no good. You two are removed from the competition, and you will also be put in prison," he informs them.
After this happened, I am sitting at the royal hospital. The doctor rubs some cream onto my back, and I grimace. Evan rubs my hand, and he comforts me. "It's okay, Bree," he says. I nod, and brace myself.
When it's finished, I go to my dorm and try to forget what happened. Aurelie is already asleep, and now I know that 2 people were eliminated. Tomorrow, we will see who else will be eliminated and the status of everyone's family.
