[To Listen To: 'Speechless', Lady Gaga Cover by Lauren Jauregui]

"Lauren?"

I turn back around, sighing with relief.

"Luce, thank god you're here."

I see her face soften at my words, then her expression changes quickly to confusion, once she notices the state I'm in.

"Um...I'm not even sure if I should ask...?"

I roll my eyes immediately, walking up to her where she's standing by the large make-up mirrors.

I get in front of Lucy, and I turn my back to her, facing my own reflection on the polished glass.

From where I'm standing, I watch her look down, and I can see her almost blurt out in laughter.

"Shut up," I mutter, continuing, "Can you please just uncuff me? I'm so pissed off right now, and I just need them off. Like, right now."

Lucy looks up, our eyes meeting in the mirror.

She tilts her head to the side, answering, "I dunno, I'm kinda on board with this, to be honest--"

"Luce," I interrupt, jingling my hands behind me impatiently.

But she just ignores me, saying, "Really, if it were up to me, I would've cuffed you to something bolted down. Then you wouldn't be able to run off so easily."

"Lucy," I repeat again, finally turning around to face her, so I can raise my voice. "For fuck's sake--"

I'm fully expecting her to back off, but instead, she takes a step forward, forcing me to backstep against the counter.

"What're you..." I start to trail off, because there's a look in her eyes that's keeping me still.

The anger I was stoking, suddenly extinguishes, replaced by this uncomfortable uncertainty, about what she's about to say or do.

She takes a step closer, inhabiting my personal space, her hands landing on either side of me on the edge of the table.

My body freezes, and my breathing starts to slow, even though my heart starts to race.

This moment, it feels all too familiar.

----

"I can't take you seriously in that outfit, Luce."

We're standing in her dad's home recording studio, and instead of sneaking off to house parties after our school dance, we both decided that it would be more fun to record a bunch of videos.

Of course, Vero peaced out pretty quickly after a few takes, leaving Lucy and I alone with our music.

Lucy turns her body around to face me, still sitting on the piano bench, and she answers, "Fuck off, Lauren, you're wearing the same thing."

I stare back at her, narrowing my eyes and trying not to laugh. She's wearing an oversized bunny costume, and it's kinda sagging all over; and with those big droopy ears, she kinda looks ridiculously cute.

Sure, I'm prety much wearing the same thing, but in a different colour, but at least I took the silly headpiece off.

Lucy, on the other hand, decided that it makes perfect sense to record the video, still in her full get-up.
