Half- Ruined (Book 2 in the Morph Trilogy)

Chapter Forty Four

I wake up with a start, I had been dreaming again the same dream as before. Everytime I closed my eyes I saw him. I watched over and over as I killed my best friend. Martin tried to explain over and over it wasn't my fault, but it was. The truth was there, I had killed my friend. I hadn't noticed before but nkw I realized I wasn't alone. A man sat in the corner of my room fast asleep. Just when I was about to yell at him, some kind of alarm went off. The man snapped awake and pressed a button on his watch. He yawned and stood up walking over towards me. He looked up for the first time and almost jumped a foot in the air when he saw I was up.

"Where is Martin and the others?" I ask.

"They went...out." He says never taking his eyes off of me. He walks slowly over and reaches for a srynge. He then turns to me, but I pull my arms away. "Don't worry, Martin told me to keep you drugged so you wouldn't cause any accidents." I don't move, my eyes glued to his hand. My teeth snap out and I show off to him. His eyes turn a dark green. "That doesn't scare me. He says shaking his head. Something in my mind says to trust him, but my gut tells me to run. We just stay like that for a while staring at each other, and then I move. I throw off my blankets and they land right on his face. His struggle gives me enough time to run to the door, but he is soon behind me chasing me through the halls. He yells orders at the other doctors and nurses. It felt like the old days running through the hall and dodging random men. I take a left and run straight to the doors. Just before I'm about to crash through the door, a nurse pushing a gurney blocks my way. I'm to close to stop so I jump, sailing right over the gurney and nurse, and out the doors of the hospital. I land face first on the fake cement, outside the building. I can hear the man closing in on me, he probaly jumped over the gurney too. I pick up my face about an inch from the ground and come face to face with a pair of black sneakers. I look up and see the man with a huge grin on his face.

"He said you were trouble." The man says shaking his head. He holds out a hand. "I'm Jordan by the way." I look at him confussed before grabbing his hand. He pulls me to my feet. Suddenly I feel less threatend by this man named Jordan. "Martin knew you were going to escape, so he made me baby sit you untill you did." The blank look on my face soon turned into a grin as Jordan explained Martin's plan. It was a test to see if I would use my ability. Jordan was somehow invincible to all of the abilities, if i reacted he would be fine. He explained that once I was better Martin wanted him to teach me some useful skills and how to gain controll over my gift. He said I already had power, it was controll we needed to work on.

"So you're my shrink?" I asked, letting the thought sink in.

"How about you call me the super cool guy who's going to teach you super cool things."

"Like what how to do a backflip off a wall." I challenge.

"Sure if you like." He adds. He motions for me to follow and we head towards a dinner. "Are you hungry?" He asks looking at the dinner.

"No not really." I say thinking of Jax again. He grabs my arm and grins.

"Well you will be once you smell the food here," "Come on." He gives a light tug on my arm and I reluctantly follow letting the thought of Jax slip out of my head.

The 40 foot chain link fence of doom lommed over me. My body took over and before I knew it I was on the other side of the fence. I lifted myself from the crouch and walked to the only door. I decided heading in the outside arena doors was a good call. Maybe the element of suprise was key. The first thing that hit me when I walked in was the silence. I walked past empty cage, after empty cage. When I walked past the guards quaters there was barly anybody there. What the hell? I looked around for anyone, anywhere but there was nothing. I walked down rows and rows of cages untill I reached Kaines office. I was leaning against Skye's old cage looking over at the office. I saw Kaine standing in front of a giant map of the world, with a red thumbtack in his hand.

"Cody?" A voice said. I jumped about a foot in the air, before landing silently back on the ground. I turn and see the last person I'd thought I'd see. A woman with fair hair and blue eyes emerged from the shadows.

"Kell-" Someone from behind puts a hand over my mouth. Kelly doesn't move, see just looks up at the person holding me.

"Well I'm glad you two have gotton acquainted." Kaine said. I rolled my eyes. Kelly seemmed so calm it was unreal. Kaine dragged me to the cell next to Kelly's and threw me in.

"Hey, you said you would let Kelly go." I yell to him.

"Aww trying to be the hero now are you." He spits. "Well I'm not done with Kelly here." He says pointing a finger at her.

"Oh please Kaine, why do you need me?" Kelly says walking to the front of the cage.

"Because Kelly," He snaps. "I want you to watch as I destroy you're little community, your kids and your husband. " "I will take everything from you!" He walks away and slams his office door shut. He comes back seconds later with a tablet showing footage of a city on fire. He shoves it in Kelly's face. She turns away.

"LOOK!" He pushes her face against the bars, forcing her to look at the screen. He points to one small morph running around attacking people. "Look this is your kind killing anything that moves." He yells in her face. She doesn't say anything, maybe it's for the best. Then he walks over to me looking angrey.

"You know Kaine, maybe if you stop quivering in fear like a little baby, you could get things done." Kelly says. I know what she's doing she's taking Kaine off me. It works, Kaine turns around slowly and walks back to Kelly. Her cage door opens and she steps back.

"I don't think you would know what a baby is because you've never had one." "If I remember correctly, you gave up your two children, because you were scared of me." Kelly suddenly loses her cool.

"Well look around Kelly..your prescious children aren't here to save you, and this one," He points to me. "Is not leading you to no haven." Something snapped and Kelly lost it. She punched Kaine in the face. Kaine watched as blood dripped from his nose onto the floor, and then he was on her. He punched her three times before picking her up by the collor of her shirt. "You are not nothing, compared to me." Then he drops her, and walks out the cell. I was scared, I didn't know what was going to happen. Kelly saw my panick and told me she was okay. I remember being so mad at Kaine, that I ran towards the wall. The next thing I know I'm running straight towards the wall in Kelly's cell. I collapse to the ground out of breath. Kelly looks over at me, and picks herself up. She falls to her knees beside me and cradles my head. She smiles.

"Well I think we found out your ability." She says. Just as I was about to fall asleep in her arms, she looks up.

"Cody, honey you need to get up now." She says, this was the first time I heard her so scared.

"But I'm....so....tired." I say shruggling against her. She puts a hand over me and I feel some sort of power run through be. In a matter of seconds I feel perfectly fine. I stand up amazed. She just turns me towards the wall I can through.

"Close your eyes." She says "Think of a part of your cell ." I close my eyes and think of my bed in the cell.

"Clear your mind of everything else, make sounds dissaper into the backround." And suddenly she's gone. I open my eyes and see my cell. I get up and walk to the front of my cell looking towards the right, a d tbere is Kelly looking at me from her cell. She gives me a weak smile just before Kaine comes back.

"Let's go Cody."

"Where are we going."

"Someplace terrible." He say smiling wicked smile.
