Mikey jumped up to try and get Leatherhead back, but the portal had already closed and I jumped up and took his arms before he could anyway, so, again, it worked out. He struggled a little, but I held.
“Let me go!” he cried. “Leatherhead!”
“Mikito!” Naomi called out. “Grab him and let’s go before more Kraang come up.”
“I’m trying!” I whined. “He’s actually tougher than he looks, ya know!”
Then the new Turtle that I still don’t know came up and helped me. We eventually had Mikey stop trying to save Leatherhead and then follow the others out. Kraang came and we left by a wire.
On the way down, Mikey looked back at the building and sniffed. I came up to him as we landed and hugged him gently. “It’s okay…”
He hugged me back and the others looked at us with a sad-disappointed look on their faces. Naomi was looking elsewhere though, looking deep in thought. Leo had cut the wire before Kraang could come down as well.
“I hope he’ll be okay…” Mikey sniffed on my shoulder.
I patted his shoulder, “Come on… We need to go.”
Nodding, he unlatched from me and we slowly headed home. We all stayed in our pairs, the new Turtle sorta getting on my nerves already because she came up to the other side of Mikey. Still, Donnie was alone, but always inching toward Naomi and Raph.
At the lair, April was there again along with Olivia. She waved at us and I smiled without much effort back at her. Somehow, she got the message and stayed quiet, lowering her hand.
“Well this couldn’t get any worse…” Raph sighed.
“You’re saying that?!” Mikey glared at him. “Your best friend didn’t just walk through a portal, did he?”
Raph turned on him, “Hope you know that I considered Leatherhead as some kind of a friend.”
I came up to Mikey before he could explode again on Raph because Naomi was turning her head creepily to the side, watching us. Her shell was to us, so it sorta scared me. Again, I hugged Mikey, trying to comfort him.
He slowly started to calm down, then sat on the couch, twiddling with something in his hands.
“What is that, Mikey?” I asked.
Shrugging, he answered, “Something shiny I found on the ground…”
Donnie heard and came up, snatching up the device. He gasped, “Mikey, do you know what this is?”
“Shiny.” Mikey smiled, looking up at Donnie.
“This is a flash drive! It holds information from the Kraang… Give me a minute.” Donnie ordered, disappearing in a flash to his lab.
“Does Donnie have a normal room to sleep in, or does he use just that area?” Sophie asked stupidly. “I mean, he’s always in there.”
“He has a room,” Leo sighed, sitting down. “Just he never uses it.”
“But why not use his bed to sleep on?” Olivia asked. “I imagine a desk isn’t really fun to sleep on.”
“Oh, you’d be surprised what Turtles can sleep on,” Naomi muttered from a dark corner finally.
“Yeah,” the new Turtle nodded. “I slept on concrete for five years. No pillow or blanket.”
“Now that had to suck.” Sophie agreed.
Donnie came in again. “Guys, you would not believe what I found…”
Everyone but Naomi got up and went into Donnie’s lab, looking at the computer. He sat in his chair and typed some things down. Not sure why he would just keep the files up and ready to use. But he reopened them and pictures of April started popping up.
“Huh?” April asked. “Why me?”
“”I’m not sure,” Donnie shrugged. “But I even took a few files that I could scrounge up from Metalhead and still, it came up with these.”
“What would the Kraang want with April?” Leo asked.
“The answer is hidden between the Mutagen’s and April’s DNA in the possession of the Kraang,” Naomi’s creepy fortune-telling voice came from behind us all. Either we stiffened from the shock or jumped and looked at her. Without a sound, she turned and walked out again.
“Is she always like this?” the new Turtle asked.
Everyone nodded then stopped and looked at her. Leo finally said the thing I’d been wanting to say all night, “We need to know you a little more. Come into the main room and let’s talk.”
