Riker's POV
I woke up in a cold sweat, sitting bolt upright in bed. I sighed and loosened the tie around my neck. I got up to splash some cold water on my face. I peeked in the mirror. I looked horrible. That was only just a dream, imagine what would happen if Hanaa actually did die.
I realized my phone was ringing, so I picked it up and answered.
"Hello?" I mumbled.
"Hello, Mr. Lynch?" a feminine voice asked.
"Yes," I replied.
"It's Kristinne Banks, the ER nurse. I know its early, but Ms. Parker is awake and has been asking for you," the voice on the other end continued.
I was suddenly wide awake. "I'll be right there!" I said hurridly, hanging up.
I fixed my mussed up hair, then grabbed my car keys and ran out of the house.
When I got to the ER, Kristinne was waiting for me. She led me into Hanaa's room, and when Hanaa saw me, her face lit up.
I rushed over to give her a hug, so happy she was awake.
"Where's mom and dad?" she croaked.
My face fell. "Oh Hanaa, your mom left yesterday just before our walk to help your dad pack. They'll be gone for a week."
"Then can I borrow your parents?" she asked.
I smiled warmly. "Of course you can."
Mom and Dad suddenly walked in. I intercepted them before they could see Hanaa.
"Hey, Hanaa's parents aren't here so I told her she could borrow you guys," I said.
"Oh of course she can!" my mom said, bustling over to Hanaa.
While my mom fussed over Hanaa, Kristinne pulled me to the side.
"She's doing really well, but we are going to keep her here a few more days. When she comes home, she'll need to take it easy and take medication every day. She may just want to sleep," she said.
"Oh I can take care of her," I said hurridly. "She'll be fine."
"Two days," Kristinne replied. "Two days and you can take her home."
I suddenly got a phone call. I stepped out of the room to take it.
"Hello... Riker?" a female voice said.
"Speaking," I replied.
"It's Officer Carlisle, we've got that Mick kid here if you'd like to talk to him."
"I'd love to!" I replied. "Well...you know what I mean.
Officer Carlisle laughed. "Of course. Come any time."
I hung up the phone and pulled my mom off to the side to talk.
"Hey Mom I am going to the police station to talk to the kid who assaulted Hanaa. Make up an excuse if she asks where I am but DON'T tell her the real reason."
