~Three Weeks Ago~
~Unknown P.O.V~

I was walking down the dirt road barefoot and broke. There was no sky, and everywhere I looked there was either a poor individual or a thug. The sounds of coughing and yelling ran in my ears.

What is this place?

How am I supposed to survive?

Is anyone I know here?

Thoughts bounced through my head as I kept walking. People looked down at me with sadness. Some glared and others simply ignored me. I guess the citizens here don't like outsiders.

When I looked up, all I saw was brown. There was no blue skies, and there were no sun. I looked around for people I knew, but I didn't recognize anyone. My eyes felt watery, for I was lonely.

I almost began to cry, but suddenly I heard some sort of music. It interested me, and I turned around to see an old man sitting on a porch playing his tan guitar. I went up to his porch and listened to him.

"Do you like my music, boy?" asked the old man.

I nodded quickly and the man chuckled lightly.

"C'mere then. I'll teach ya how to play."

I walked up the steps to the man, and he tried to hand me the guitar, but it was too big for me.

"Jesus Christ, boy, you are tiny! How old are ya anyways?" the old man exclaimed.

"I am three." I told him.

"That's why you so small. What're you doing by yerself out here? Aren't you supposed to be with yer mama or somethin'?

I looked up at the ceiling of where I was and gulped down the lump in my throat.

"My mother is up." I said pointing to the ceiling. "I don't know where I am, and I can't see the sky."

The old man hummed in response and stared at me. He had a concentrated look on his face.

"So yer mama is dead and in heaven?"

I shook my head.

"No, no. She is up where you see the sky." I said.

The old man kept thinking for a little while until he figured out what the little boy was talking about.

"You're from the surface, aren't you?" the old man asked. I nodded. "How did you end up here in the underground then? Did your mama drop ya or did someone make you come down here?"

I shrugged at his question. I don't know why I'm here, nor do I know what the underground is.

"I wanna go home..." I said.

I heard the old man sigh.

"You are home, boy. Once you come to the underground, you can never go back up." he said.

The old man patted my head and picked up his guitar.

"You're stayin' with me and my wife until you find who yer looking for."

The old man walked into his house, and I followed. He placed his guitar on a table. His house was fairly small, and it was very clean.

"Beatrice, come in here! I got you something!"

There was footsteps coming from behind me.

"Now, Jeffrey, if its another puppy I will slap you upside-"

I turned around to see a lady. She had red hair and brown eyes. A smile cast upon her face when she looked at me.

"H-Hi." I stuttered.

The lady's eyes started to tear up. I went up to her and she kneeled down to my level. I wiped away a tear that was falling on her cheeks.

"Why are you crying?" I asked her.

Her smile grew wider and she placed her hand on my head.

"Who is this boy?" she asked.

"He is from the surface. His parents probably left him down here." the old man replied.

The woman ran her fingers through my hair and stared into my eyes.

"We will take care of you, alright?"

I nodded, and she smiled at me.

"What is your name, dear?"

"My name is (s/n) (l/n)."

The woman started to cry more. I had a confused look on my face. Why was she crying?

"(s/n), several years ago our daughter was kidnapped by a gang of thugs. I missed her so much, but now that you're here I can finally breathe again."

The woman kissed my forehead and gave me a tight hug.

"Jeffrey and I will take care of you, and we will love you like our own, you hear?"

I nodded.

"Yes ma'am." I said.

She smiled and hugged me again.
"You've only been here for two minutes and I already love you." I heard her whisper.

She picked me up and took me to a room. It was very plain, and it only had a bed, dresser, and table. The woman sighed.

"Its not much, but it will do." she told me.

I nodded and she put me down. I walked towards the bed. I gave her a small smile.

"Thank you, ma'am."
